Parents & Students – Here is the latest news from Steinbrenner’s Guidance Department.We will be providing updates from the guidance department on a regular basis through our emails and postings on the Guidance, College & Career Edsby Group Page and the Steinbrenner website under “Guidance”.
Bright Futures Scholarship Applications – Seniors should continue to apply for Bright Futures and other State of Florida Scholarships at if they haven’t already done so. 1st semester evaluations have been completed and students should be able to view their status online. In addition, all seniors have received a new copy of their evaluation reflecting their current Bright Futures status. Students may continue to meet the SAT/ACT, GPA, and community service requirements through June. Community service hours must be completed and turned in before graduation.
Financial Aid – Seniors and parents should complete the financial aid process to apply for assistance in paying for college. There are several organizations that charge fees for completing the form so be sure to only use the official website – This application allows students to obtain free money through grants, work study and scholarships. Students may also be offered student loans through this process. Colleges typically have priority deadlines for students to complete their application.
UNF to You – Tuesday, April 5, 6-8 p.m. – DoubleTree Tampa Airport – Learn more about the University of North Florida’s College of Business and College of Computing, Engineering and Construction.
HCC & St. Pete. College – Our HCC and St. Pete College Admissions Representative will be here at Steinbrenner in April to meet with interested seniors. Assistance will be given with the application procedures, testing requirements, degree programs, financial aid, etc. Students may sign up in the Success Center to participate.
Brewster Open House – Saturday, April 23 – 9-12
Aparicio-Levy Technical College - Open House – Thursday, April 28, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
AP Testing – Begins May 2 and continues through Friday, May 13. Students should get a good night’s rest and bring necessary items to take the test. Students should bring a black or dark blue pen and a pencil. Students should not bring cell phones and report to the gym at 7:15 for the morning tests and 11:15 for the afternoon tests. Bring your own snack for the break, if you have two exams on the same day, bring your lunch, you may not have time to get lunch from the cafeteria. Make sure you have transportation home if you have an afternoon test, you will most likely not be able to ride the bus.

Scholarship Bulletin – Scholarship bulletins are available in the Guidance Office and on the Guidance Group Page. New scholarship information will be posted as it becomes available. There are scholarship opportunities, contests and leadership opportunities for all grade level students. Students should check out some of the upcoming deadlines for great local scholarships. Some great scholarships listed this month include Tampa Gator Club, Lutz Land O Lakes Womans Club (for males and females), Tampa Bay Seminole Scholarship, and the Hillsborough County PTA/PTSA Scholarship.
Other College Summer Programs – Underclassmen – Check on the college website for summer opportunities.
Junior Handbooks – Students who did not attend Junior Night have received their junior handbook through English class. Parents, be sure to ask to see the personalized book and review it with your child. We want them all to be prepared for the upcoming senior year filled with college applications, scholarships, financial aid, etc.
Ryan Nece Power of Giving – Student Service Program – 10th grade students only! – Due April 15 – This program includes monthly meetings, leadership development, self-discovery and team work. Students also participate in community service projects.
SAT/ACT/PERT Prep – There are several test prep options for these tests.
PERT – Study Guide at and
Free Practice Books – Getting Ready for the SAT – Preparing for the ACT -available in the Guidance Office or Success Center. These are full length practice tests with answers and test taking strategies.
Match your PSAT scores to your College Board account and link to Khan Academy for practice. (These steps may vary for each student) See Mrs. Pressley with any questions.
• Sign in to student’s College Board Account
• Click on PSAT/NMSQT and Click on “Get PSAT Scores”
• Click on “Add Scores” if not available already (If there – click on link to Khan Academy)
• Update as needed and Click on “I can supply my Id” Enter ID
• Log out and back in to get scores and Link to Khan Academy (orange arrow)
• Unblock popups if necessary and click again on Khan Academy
• Click on green oval and sign in with email or g-mail.
• Allow College Board to send scores to Khan Academy
Congratulations to the following students:
Mary Deschler was selected as Steinbrenner’s nominee for the Athena Young Women of Promise Award. This award recognizes juniors who are outstanding in academics and other areas. She was selected one of ten finalist in Hillsborough County and will be recognized at an awards luncheon in April.
ShivaniRamesh, Mary Deschler and Virginia Howell were selected to attend Girls State this summer. Bennett Nichols was selected to attend Boys State this summer and Gregory Beauregard was selected as an alternate. These programs are sponsored by the American Legion posts and allow the students to attend a week long program in Tallahassee learning about the legislative process.
