March 3, 2014 – The OakwoodHigh School Guidance department is hosting a college admissions panel in their high school auditorium beginning at 7 pm. Admissions counselors from several colleges including MiamiUniversity and UD will be answering questions about the college admissions process and sharing knowledge through a question and answer forum. LOCAL/IN-STATE SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

The PrebleCounty local scholarships are now available and are as follows:

Charles D. Murray Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is in the amount of $500.00 for students pursing education in either post secondary vocational or trade school related fields. Must be in the upper 25% of their class. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline to return to guidance is

March 24, 2014.

Dale F. Koons Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1000.00 available to any PrebleCounty graduating senior. Must show financial need and demonstrate participation in extra-curricular activities, church and community affairs, and the qualifications that show he/she is striving to be successful. Applications are in the guidance office. Deadline to return to guidance is March 24, 2014.

Patricia C. Brubaker Excellence in English Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500.00 available to students who are advancing their education and have maintained a minimum B average in high school English and English related subjects. Applications available in the guidance office. Deadline to return to guidance is March 24, 2014.

Charles C. Friend Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500.00 available to students interested in becoming a public school teacher either elementary or secondary. Students applying must be ranked in the upper 25% of their graduating class and show financial need. Must have been involved in extra-curricular activities and have shown in interest in becoming a successful teacher. Applications available in the guidance office. Deadline to return to guidance is March 24, 2014.

The Eaton Rotary Club is sponsoring a scholarship in the amount of $500 to a graduating senior in the top 20% of their class, who is going to an accredited institution after high school. Financial need is a basis of the decision as are participation in extra-curricular activities and community involvement. Applications are in the guidance office. Applications are due in the ESC from our school by March 24, 2014.

The Preble County Chamber of Commerce is again sponsoring a scholarshipin the amount of $1,000.00 for a graduating senior to assist with college. Applications are in the guidance office lit rack. Deadline to return to guidance is March 24, 2014.

Are you a leader in and out of the classroom? Do you have at a least a 3.0 GPA and you plan to a college, university or a trade school? If so, you should apply for the Jack Cobb Leadership Award. This scholarships awards $5,000.00 per college year up to $20,000.00 total. Students who have exemplified leadership qualities in and out of school through student government, athletics, 4-H, the arts or civic organizations are considered for this award. Applications are available in guidance. Deadline to apply is March 18, 2014.

The Omicron Sigma Sorority of Eaton is again offering scholarships to PrebleCounty students only. Amount has not been announced. Financial need as well as academic standing are considered for this scholarship. Turn in the applications to guidance not later than March 12, 2014. The Preble County College Club is again offering a $900.00 scholarship to one Preble county senior who will be pursuing a 2 year or 4 year degree. The scholarship is awarded based on financial need, ACT/SAT scores, academic achievement and extracurricular activities. Applications are available in the guidance office and the deadline to return applications to the guidance office is March 7, 2014.

The Preble Shawnee Booster Club will be awarding 2 scholarships in the amount of $250.00 each. One boy and one girl will be chosen based on academic standing, activities, community involvement and sports involvement. Applications are in guidance and are due back to the guidance office by April 18, 2014.

Preble CountyPork Festival Scholarship. This scholarship is available to graduating seniors from PrebleCounty in the amount of $500.00. It is a one-time award. Students applying must be enrolled in a 2 year or 4 year college/university and must present an acceptance letter before money is disbursed. You do not have to be a member of 4-H or FFA or any agricultural club to qualify. Preference will be given to students who have been involved in volunteerism with the Preble County Pork Festival. Applications are available in the guidance office. Applications are due in our guidance office by March 27, 2014.

Attention Seniors-The Middletown Community Foundation has announced availability of the following scholarships: The deadline to apply for each of these scholarships is February 21, 2014. Applications for each scholarship are available online at There are also applications available in the guidance office.

The Cedric H. Glover Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $250.00 to be used for any education purpose. Non-renewable.

The Dr. B.F. and Kathleen Otto Scholarship in the amount of $250.00 (or higher depending on funds) to be awarded to students from Preble Shawnee High School who have a 3.7 GPA or higher and are pursuing careers in Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine or Registered 4-year Degree Nursing.

The Ruth B. Neff Memorial Scholarship is available to students who reside in SomersTownship and are pursuing an undergraduate degree on the campus of Miami University Oxford Ohio. Amount will be determined.

The Larry A. Hart Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 is again available to students graduating in 2013 and will be pursuing a degree in either the field of Natural Resources or Law Enforcement. Stop in the guidance office for an application….postmark deadline is March 13, 2014.

Miami Regionals (MUM & MUH) have announced a new scholarship program. New, incoming first-year students who have an ACT score of 22 or above and a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher and have received no other scholarship of equal of greater value from Miami University will receive an automatic, one-time scholarship of $1, 000.00 if you apply by March 15, 2014. Once you are accepted to a regional campus you will need to contact the admissions office about applying for this program if you meet this criteria.

MCCULLOUGHHYDEMEMORIALHOSPITAL AUXILIARY NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS -three $3000.00 scholarships will be awarded to applicants residing in the service area or McCullough Hyde. Requirements include: a completed application, official transcript through 1st semester of senior year, three letters of recommendation, copy of letter of acceptance from a school with an accredited nursing program and a personal essay. Are you a good writer? The Optimist International Organization is again offering a $500.00 scholarship to the winner of their essay contest. Applications and rules are available in the guidance office.The deadline has been extended to Friday, February 7, 2014.

The William D. Squires Educational Foundation, Inc. is again offering 12 scholarships to students who are going to college and have a definite financial need. Students must have a specific career goal, be highly motivated, have good character and show academic promise with a minimum 3.2 GPA. Applications are available at Postmark deadline isApril 5, 2014.

Interested in the automotive industry by way of engineering, technology, design or business? The BUICK ACHIEVERS Scholarship Program offers up to 100 scholarships to students interested in this field. Visit their website at for more information and instructions on how to apply. GOT MILK????America’s Milk Processors are again offering their “got milk” “Scholars Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year” SAMMY Scholarship Award Program. Applications for this opportunity are accepted ONLINE ONLY at until March 9, 2014. For all official rules and requirements visit this same website.

The 2013 KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program is offering up to $5000 per year in scholarship money to students graduating in this academic school year and who maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 or higher. You must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree and be starting college no later than 9/30/12. Applications are to be completed online at beginning March 15, 2014.

The Farmersville/Jackson Township swimming pool is currently taking applications for lifeguard and concession stand workers You must be 16 years old and have your CPR and first aid certification by May 1, 2014.
