Meeting began at 11:20
- Agenda Item 1: Administrative
- Clarify/explain different GSEA officer roles
- Reps: Ryan doing fall GSA meeting; Mackenzie doing Winter
- Brittany suggested an officer transition dinner
- Discussion: Week One
- Agenda Item 2: Current funds
- Bank: Update on the current GSEA bank account, by Brittany: $7,000
- When to transfer to Schuyler? (end of summer)
- Uses for funds, suggested by Lorenzo:
- Business cards / dept logo/graphics: Cost? 50/100 per student; advertise at conferences; all voted yes
- Book review mini-grants (a la Friends of English publishing awards)--$50-75?: $50 (one a year per person); all voted yes
- GSEA essay contest—$100?: All voted no (already have enough; too much added time pressure)
- Summer Stipend/fellowship for reading year--$? (Sustainable funds?); talk to Devlin to see if Friends of English can do this; all voted to bring up at a later date
- Agenda Item 3: Fundraising
- Endurance for English: Lorenzo would like to lead one last time
- Discussion: Hand out RAships associated with this fundraisers among GSEA?
- Future fundraising: Thoughts for future, sustainable fundraisers?
- Discussion: Book sale/bake sale in the Fall
- Get an inventory of what professors need for RAship; use these for fundariasing (volunteering, better relationship with professor, etc.)
- Agenda Item 4: Peer mentoring
- Peer Mentor Program
- Liz Gumm has volunteered to structure a new Peer Mentor program
- Need ten volunteers
- Will offer job experience to Mentors
- Second and beyond year students will meet first year 2 times Fall; 1 time Winter and 1 time Spring
- Mentors will write paragraphs on their Mentee to send to Liz, who will then give them to Professor Zieger
- Try to get master’s students into 200, to at least meet professors
- Have set up by department Orientation
- Have a Peer Mentor Orientation Week 0
- ListServ: Getting incoming students on it): currently help ul\p
- Workshops: Workshop on Electronic citation software—endnote,etc.. (Lorenzo, Simon) / Roundtable or something on electronic research tools/organization (endnote strategies, etc…)
- Set up for Fall quarter
- Agenda Item 5: Brainstorming
- Parties, events, projects
- Discussion: Department new year part, Thursday Week 1? (Killarney’s?)
- Coffee meet and greet with Book/Bake sale
- Educate people about readerships (bring this to Department Meeting)
- Make day socials (so people with families can attend)
- Comments about what didn’t work last year

- Need updated prospecti, areas petition information, dissertation, M.A. portfolio, etc. on GSEA iLearn
