Worship 10:30AM

ON EASTER SUNDAY, our children will spend the Sunday School

hour hearing about the resurrection, enjoying an Easter egg hunt, and

decorating St. Mark's wooden cross with flowers. We I invite you to join

us for these activities as well as for a reception in the social hall

We would also appreciate your contributions of cupcakes, beverages, and other

treats for the reception; please see or contact Amy Myers (;

Dear members and Friends,

Ready for Spring – Ready for Resurrection!

Seriously, I am ready for Spring! I am looking forward to walking out of my door without worrying about whether I need a coat, hat and gloves. After this winter, I don’t think I could handle living far north of Maryland. What I am looking forward to the most is seeing the budding flowers. Blossoming bulbs is a great reminder of Resurrection.

There was excitement when the news spread that Jesus had arisen from the dead. Yes, there was fear for those associated with Jesus of Nazareth. The disciples feared that they, too could be arrested, tried, and sentenced to death. One thing was different after Jesus’ resurrection. The disciples had an inner sense of joy and peace in their hearts that could not be taken from them.

I’m sure that we all feel joy when Spring arrives! That seems to be the way it is in our lives. To be a person of faith does not mean that it’s going to be sunny all of the time. Jesus’ disciples knew that despite the hurt and pain and the sin and the broken relationships in our lives, nothing can separate us from the love of God made known to us in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord. We all know these promises as well by the promises through our baptism.

It is my hope that when you pause and contemplate the sum of the joys and sorrows of your year that you will know, even through the challenging times, that the tomb was empty. As a disciple of Christ, you have the Joy of Jesus deep in your heart. I remember singing as a child the song, “Down in my Heart” and I can recall how this song brings me comfort when I contemplate the balance between good times and difficult times. So I leave you with a few lyrics from this song, and I hope it brings you comfort, too.

I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart

Where?

Down in my heart!

Where?

Down in my heart!

I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart

Down in my heart to stay

I've got the peace that passes understanding

Way down in the depths of my heart!

Where?

Down in the depths of my heart!

Where?

Down in the depths of my heart!

I've got the peace that passes understanding

Way down in the depths of my heart!

Down in my heart to stay

Yours in Christ,

Pastor C. Andrew Carr

CONFIRMATION

Six of our 8th graders will publicly profess their faith, May 5, 2018

Contemporary Service 8:30AM

A reception in between 9:30 and 10:30 will be held in their honor

NEW AT ST. MARK’S

In between the services on January 25th based on the recommendation of the Worship and Music committee some changes were made to our worship space. As you enter the double doors of the sanctuary and begin to walk toward the center aisle, you will notice that a pew has been moved a few feet back against the wall. This was done to make room for the Baptismal font. In keeping with the tradition making the Baptismal font visible, you will be able to see the font as you enter the

sanctuary. On Sunday morning (unless a baptism is scheduled) the cover to the font will be removed, and water will be in the font. You are invited to dip your finger into the font and with a drop of water make the sign of the cross on your forehead as a way to remember your baptism.

Theologically speaking, Baptism is the disciple's entrance into church membership also known as the Body of Christ. All baptized members and all Christian congregations make up the Body of Christ. So as Martin Luther stated many times and in many sermons and lectures…a disciple of Christ should remember daily that he or she was Baptized. What better way to remember your baptism on Sunday morning than to see the Baptismal font as you enter the sanctuary.

NEED PASTORAL CARE?

Does the Pastor Know? Did the Call go through? Was the Text received?

If you need pastoral care please contact the church office (leave a message) or call/text

Pastor Carr. Because of privacy laws that went into effect several years ago hospitals

will not call church offices to inform the pastor that a member of his or her congregation is hospitalized. Pastor Carr would rather receive two or three calls or texts than not to be

informed that a member is in need of a visit
