PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 DELIVERY & HANDLING
A. Upon delivery of green roof modules they are to be kept out of the sun if plastic wrapped to prevent overheating.
B. Installation shall be dependent upon weather and/or plant availability. Proceed with installation only when existing and forecasted weather conditions permit installation when optimum results may be obtained.
C. It is recommended not to install on saturated roof surfaces or under inclement weather conditions, unless with the express written permission of module supplier.
D. Handle empty or vegetated modules with care (i.e.: do not drop, stack or kick modules during handling or installation) to prevent damage to modules and all roofing components. Contractor/Installer shall be responsible for protection of waterproofing/roofing membrane/roof surface.
E. Distribute modules temporarily stored on the roof deck for installation to stay within load limits of the roof construction.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Perform module installation only after appropriate waterproofing system inspection. If additional waterproofing layers/slip sheets are required before installation, these shall be installed by professionals and inspected before placement of modules. It is strongly recommended that the waterproofing system be leak tested prior to module installation to confirm water tightness.
B. Erect safety signage and provide fall protection/fall prevention equipment as required under OSHA.
C. Restrict traffic from work areas until modules are installed and thereafter to restrict damage to the vegetation and modules.
D. Thoroughly remove all debris, foreign materials and etc. from the waterproofing surface, before, during, and after installation.
3.3 INSTALLATION
A. Remove all debris from the roof surface or slip sheet surface that might interfere with installation of the modules or compromise the integrity of the waterproofing surface with a broom and/or blower. Execute work in accordance with the specification, drawings, and details.
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Edging is optional. Delete if not required.
1. Install edging along perimeter border between vegetation-free zones and vegetated areas.
2. Ensure modules fit tightly within edging perimeter so that modules fit over flange feet.
B. Place modules on the roof surface or slip-sheet, according to the landscape design, and following the approved recommendations of the roofers/engineers/architects consulted for this project.
C. Carefully place modules tight against each other in straight rows, so that designed holes are aligned for optimal module attachment. Attempt to place modules in intended locations and give care to minimize the amount of sliding required for accurate positioning.
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Tray fasteners are optional.
D. Module Interconnection: Connect modules together with approved self-locking fasteners in any occurrence where more than one module is adjacent to another.
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Optional for pre-vegetated modules only. Delete if not required.
E. Once installed, the modules shall be uniformly watered to sufficiently saturate the vegetation and soil media from top to bottom. Water shall be free of substances harmful to plant growth. The contractor shall furnish hoses or other methods of temporary irrigation.
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Optional for green roof trays planted on-site using sedum Mats/TIles. Delete if not required.
F. When temperatures exceed 80 degrees thoroughly saturate growing media prior to placing sedum tiles or sedum mats on filled modules. If temperatures are below 80 degrees no preliminary growing media saturation is required.
1. Install sedum tiles or sedum mats conforming to landscape design and other specified requirements.
2. Uniformly water to fully saturate modules once sedum tiles or mats are in place.
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Irrigation may be recommended based on many factors, including climate, site specific conditions, and plant selection. Refer to Green Roof Outfitters installation guide or contact Green Roof Outfitters for irrigation recommendations. Delete if not required.
