New Business

  • Marco’s Pizza Fundraiser scheduled Monday 2/8, Locations on the reverse
  • Skating Party Scheduled 2/11 6-8pm $5/skater, $1 will go toward the PTO
  • Save the Date 6/4/16 for our Annual End of the Year Picnic
  • Teacher Appreciation Week; Volunteers needed to make or distribute appreciation gifts, volunteer hours available for those that assist in making gifts or delivery

  • Parent Congress Update
  • Newly elected president, Randall Parker, was voted into office after Stephanie Eichenberg moved on to her position as representative on the TPS Board, congratulations Stephanie
  • The group is seeking more parent participation and long term commitment to encourage participation in holding a position on the board; meeting dates are published on the website
  • If you have questions or concerns you would like to have discussed in future meetings, please contact the GPA PTO Parent Congress Representative, Alexandria Harris
  • Guest speakers were TTA and Glenwood principals to share “A Day in the Life” of a principal and focusing on alternatives to suspension and working with administrators and teachers
  • The website should be up and running soon and will be a resource for notes about past meetings or dates of future events if you would like to participate or remain involved in the TPS community
  • The GPA PTO website and facebook will share information as it is available to keep you up to date with the activities of Parent Congress

  • Just a reminder that though there is a balance in the account there are still a number of expenses budgeted through the end of the year, we hope to have increased participation in fundraisers through the end of the year to start off next year’s activities

Principal Report Mrs. Johnson (Delivered by Mr. Mitchell)

  • Mini Library sponsored by the Washington Church has been a success at the school
  • Representatives from the church, Kevin and Eric, shared the opportunity that families may participate in a mini library at their home to support their neighborhoods
  • Goal is to promote literacy
  • The church will put together a kit to get your family started, $30 to help cover the cost
  • Approximate size is 2’x2’
  • Checks should be made payable to Washington Church
  • Sign up due 2/12/16 if you wish to participate
  • Information sheets were available at the meeting and will be sent home with students
  • Mid Term reports are scheduled to go out 2/12/16
  • Student’s agenda books should be checked by parents and students should be encouraged to remain organized and take charge in managing their own education
  • Nurse Beth has seen an increase in illnesses; just a reminder that notes should be returned with the student if they are out ill
  • GPA is a truancy mediation school; when students miss, those with the highest absence will be documented and submitted to TPS for review; the mediation process does not mean action will be taken but the absences will be reviewed
  • Brotherhood banquet committee will be meeting next Monday 2/8/16 at 245 pm; the group is considering a live museum where students will dress up and present information about their person in history
  • Last new parent meeting for families wanting to attend GPA is scheduled 2/23 9a-1030a
  • ALICE training 2/9 for teachers is scheduled
  • 2nd semester conference dates and schedule plan are pending confirmation from TPS
  • AIR Testing Window Dates: ELA 4/4-4/22 Gr 3-8; Math 4/25-5/13 Gr 3-8; Science/Social Studies 4/11-4/22 Gr 4 & 8; Social Studies Gr 57
  • STAR Testing Dates Should be announced soon
  • Student Counsel introductions
  • Students work to make recommendations on improvements to the school; this year so far there has been additional equipment (basketball hoop) added to the recess area
  • Student service project, this year they will be decorating the staircases with inspirational quotes
  • Student counsel is planning to participate in activities to support the Flint MI water crisis

Action Items

  • Parent requested explanation of 1st and 2nd grades not participating in honor roll; Mr Mitchell to follow up
  • There are no dates for snow make up
  • 8th Grade and Kindergarten graduation is coming soon, volunteers are needed, please contact the PTO through the website or social media
