Group Volunteer Code of Conduct Contract

The purpose of this contract is to describe standards of conduct expected for all volunteers of the Greenville Humane Society. Proper conduct is necessary to preserve the health and safety of all volunteers, and to assure the humane treatment and care of the animals. In addition, proper conduct is necessary in regard to providing efficient and courteous service to the public. Volunteers are subject to the rules and regulations of the Greenville Humane Society. Failure to comply will result in dismissal. Any complaints should be directed to the Volunteer Coordinator.

•Arrive on time for our scheduled group volunteer experience.

•Stay on task in my designated volunteer area, unless reassigned by a GHS staff member.

•Defer all questions regarding animals to an adoption counselor or GHS staff member.

•Wear the appropriate attire: clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, name tag given at start of experience, properly fitting pants or shorts without visible rips or hems higher than 5” above the knee, and closed-toe shoes.

•Refrain from eating and drinking during your experience, unless deemed necessary by the Volunteer Coordinator.

•Refrain from cell phone and camera use of any kind until after your group volunteer experience.

•Abstain from inviting friends and/or family to attend the experience.

•Comply with GHS’s no-smoking policy and refrain from smoking anywhere on the property. This includes inside the building, dog walking area, and public parking lot.

•Refrain from using or encouraging vulgar and inappropriate language, gestures or behavior.

•Treat all animals with respect.

•Treat fellow volunteers, customers, and GHS staff members with respect.

•Assist the GHS staff in its efforts to operate efficiently and effectively.

•Work in accordance with current written policies and procedures, as protocols and policies are subject to change.

•Represent GHS in a positive and respectful manner, on and off-site.

**Failure to comply to the listed standards above will result in immediate dismissal from the premises.**

Group Volunteer Release Form

As a volunteer with the Greenville Humane Society, my duties require that I handle and care for dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and other possible species of animals, as explained in the job description. I understand these animals, although appearing to be temperamentally sound, may become fractious, wild, angry, and/or defensive, or otherwise behave in an unexpected manner.

I agree to hold the Greenville Humane Society harmless for any liability for injury, illness, disfigurement, death, or any other occurrence happening during the performance of duties, including any created by an animal or animals that I may come into contact with at the Greenville Humane Society. In addition, I agree to immediately report all injuries to the Adoption Manager and/or the Volunteer Coordinator.

I am aware that as a volunteer I will be handling hazardous chemicals. These includeBleach, and cleaners containing Ammonia. I agree that I am competent when handling these chemicals and will use them with safety and precaution, according to the labeling directions. I agree to hold Greenville Humane Society harmless for any injuries or accidents that occur while using these chemicals.

As a private, non-profit organization with limited resources and abilities to accommodate staff or volunteers with mental, physical, or behavioral disabilities, we ask that you, the volunteer or parent/guardian, to notify the Volunteer Coordinator of any potential limitations or special circumstances. We reserve the right to only accept applicants who can meet the requirements of the volunteer job description.

The Greenville Humane Society values the concerns and opinions of each and every volunteer; please direct all complains and concerns to the Volunteer Coordinator so that any issues may be resolved as soon as possible.
