Group Analytic Psychotherapist

JOB DESCRIPTION

PURPOSE OF THE POST

To provide seven one-off therapeutic groups to staff involved in the Grenfell Tower relief effort, at premises in North Kensington, in September 2017, with the possibility of further sessions.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Group Analytic Psychotherapists are accountable to the Director of Clinic.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of a group psychotherapist are:

  1. To provide professional, skilled and therapeutic group psychotherapy in accordance with the group analytic model. The groups will be one-off groups, wit the possibility of a further session.
  2. To maintain high standards of clinical practice, supported by a commitment to continuing professional development.
  3. To manage the group in accordance with WPF Therapy group psychotherapy service policies and procedures. This involves adhering to organisational policies and procedures, and those stated in the Clinical Handbook and in the Group Handbook.
  4. To attend and participate inin-house clinical supervision, in accordance with the requirements of WPF Therapy.
  5. To attend line management as required.
  6. Todemonstrate a commitment to developing and maintaining an ethical attitude in relation to clinical work, to work in accordance with the BACP Code of Ethics and Practice and to maintain sound ethical standards of clinical practice.
  7. To maintain professional memberships of the relevant bodies (full/ professional/ accredited membership i.e. UKCP) and to inform the organisation if for any reason this becomes compromised.
  8. To ensure and participate in a helpful level of communication with appropriate colleagues, regarding clinical matters in the group and especially regarding any causes for concern or complaints.
  9. To be available for telephone or email contact with colleagues when necessary.

The main tasks of this post are:

  1. To provide group psychotherapy in groups of 6-8 people.
  1. To ensure that the clinical records of each group member, or potential member, are kept up to date on a regular basis. This includes clinical group notes, registers of attendance, completed monitoring data and record of fee payments.
  1. To attend conscientiously to the clinical administrative tasks, as required by the Group Psychotherapy Service, and to ensure that copies of all correspondence related to clients and records of all telephone conversations are promptly and correctly filed.
  1. To ensure that all client records are securely stored in accordance with WPF Clinical Service and Group Psychotherapy Service procedures.
  1. To participate in any other reasonable and appropriate tasks in support of the Group Psychotherapy Service and WPF Therapy.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. An applicant for this post must be a qualified and experienced group analytic psychotherapist.
  2. S/he should be a current full professional / accreditedmember of UKCP, BPC or BACP.
  3. S/he should have some experience of working with a range of clients, and be able to recognise and respond to more severe psychopathology. S/he will therefore be able to adapt their approach to meet a variety of needs.
  4. S/he will ideally have experience of working with trauma and / or with people living in traumatic and difficult circumstances.
  5. S/he must be able to respond effectively to difficult or challenging behaviour in order to ensure the safety of clients and staff.
  6. S/he should be able to demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  7. S/he should have had at least 4 years experience of being a member of a groupanalytic psychotherapy group.
  8. S/he should have good written and spoken communication skills.
  9. S/he should be organised and computer literate and able to use e-mail.

QUALITIES AND ATTRIBUTES

1. S/he should be able to work within an organisational structure, to co-operate with its requirements and to participate in its life.

2. S/he should be flexible and able to accept and work with appropriate levels of change.

Remuneration:£ 75 per session for a four-hour session (1.5-hour group plus admin and preparation time).
