Public comment: Girls’ basketball coach Denny Flesner commented regarding his concerns about a possible lack of numbers for girls’ high school basketball for the upcoming season. Playing a shortened junior varsity schedule is a concern for him and as he is attempting to schedule a camp this summer for players, he was addressing rumors regarding the possibility of cooping girls’ basketball with a neighboring school district.
Action was taken as follows:
- The following individuals will serve as assistants during the eighth grade promotion exercises May 26: Brian Bradshaw and Darin Mountain. Assisting at the high school graduation on May 27 will be David Risley and John Emrick.
- Following a brief presentation regarding fifth grade textbooks, it was decided that math and science textbooks will be purchased for the fifth grade in order to get that grade level into the same series as a continuum for the primary and middle school curriculum. The money will be spent from the Farm Account to do so.
- There was extensive discussion regarding the athletic survey information received from the students at both middle school and high school. Most of the discussion centered around numbers required and preferred for a successful high school girls’ basketball team and the pros as well as cons of cooping that sport in the future.
- Approved Kristine Bingham and Debbie Browning as high school cheer coaches.
- Accepted with regret the resignation of Leslie Hellrung, School Social Worker.
- Approved the posting of a physical education teacher and a school social worker for the 2011-2012 school year.
