Dear patient

GP & Staffing Changes

As the posters in both surgeries confirms there will be a number of GP and staffing changes taking place over the next six months at Grenoside Surgery.

GP Changes

As many patients will be aware Dr Katie Porter is expecting her first child and will be taking a period of Maternity Leave with effect from Friday 11th December 2015 and will return to the practice in early October 2016.

In addition to this Dr Richard Panniker has decided to retire from practice and will leave on 31st January 2016 and Dr Jean Boldy has also decided to retire and will leave on 31st May 2016.

I am sure the vast majority of patients will know Richard and Jean are also husband and wife and I am also sure like all the staff here you will wish them all the very best for their retirement.

The practice has recruited a number of new GPs both to cover Dr Porter’s Maternity Leave pending her return and also on a permanent basis. Details are as follows: -

Dr Robin Meakin will directly replace Dr Porter during her Maternity Leave and will commence on Monday 14th December 2016 until early October 2016.

Dr Claire Rimmer will commence on Monday 25th January 2016 covering part of Dr Panniker’s sessions until early October 2016

Dr Shelley Jackson, who many patients will have met in the surgery, will also commence on 25th January 2016 working Monday’s and Tuesdays and finally Dr Jo Hazell will commence on the same date working one session per week on Thursdays. Both of these appointments are on a permanent basis.

Staffing Changes

Kathy Turner, Receptionist has decided to retire on 31st December 2015 after long service to the practice. I am pleased to confirm that Lucy Hirst our current apprentice has been appointed to replace Kathy and we have also been successful in appointing Shannon Smith to the apprentice vacancy this move has created.

Finally Wendy Kirkland, Practice Nurse will be retiring in February 2016 after long service to the NHS and Primary Care. The practice is actively recruiting to the post of Practice Nurse and I am confident an appointment will be made to coincide with Wendy’s retirement in February 2016.

Please be assured that although there will be changes in personnel over these coming months the services currently provided at both sites will continue.at their current levels We will also aim to provide new services to patients wherever appropriate.

I have attached a brief Question and Answer paper which I hope covers many of the questions you may have. However, if you have any additional questions on the changes, please do not hesitate to contact me as follows: -

Q&A

I am currently registered with Dr Panniker or Dr Boldy – who will be my named GP in the future

The practice intends to move all of Dr Panniker’s patients onto the registered list of Dr James Moody and Dr Boldy’s patients to Dr Shelley Jackson

Although the named GP will alter as a result the practice has always operated on a group GP basis and this in no way changes the current arrangements and does not prevent you making an appointment with or seeing any doctor, of your choosing within the surgery, as you would normally do.

Will services continue as they are now on two sites & will Wadsley Bridge remain open each weekday??

Yes the practice will continue, as now, to operate two sites and Wadsley Bridge will open five days per week, Monday to Friday as normal.

I prefer to see a GP of the same gender as myself where possible – will this still be an option?

The practice was keen to ensure GPs of both genders were available for patients wishing to see a GP of the gender of their choice. This will, wherever possible, be accommodated at the time of making your appointment.
