SOGA 2018 (May 18-20)

Greetings Unified Partners and Athletes! Important you read entire letter.

Welcome to the 2018 Special Olympics Georgia Summer Games, Special Olympics thanks you for joining us at the tennis venue for this year’s State Games competition. Following is some general information to make this a fun and memorable experience for you. It is our hope that you will love being a part of this special weekend.

The Summer Games are held at Emory University; the tennis courts are located outside of and inside of the Woodruff P.E. Center. A campus map and written directions are attached. Free parking is available at the Peavine Parking Deck, within walking distance of the tennis courts. Directional signage is displayed on the campus all weekend.

This is a rain or shine event (they have indoor courts)

You are welcome to attend Friday night Opening Ceremonies at Mc Donough Field at 6:30. Dance will follow at same site at 8:30. Check inclement weather schedule.

Level 1 Skills, Level 3 Adapted Court Singles, and Level 2 Short Court Unified Doubles will be held on Friday starting at NOON.

Level 3 and Level 5 doubles (Unified and Traditional) will take place on Saturday.

All Level 5 Singles will take place on Sunday.

1) All athletes and partners that attended the games previously should wear their yellow dry fit shirt that they received last year. If their shirt needs to be replaced we can do that. Others willreceive their shirt when they check in at the SPECIAL POPS CHECK IN TABLE. SOGA credentials will also be given out at the Special pops table. Table will be set up near outside Tennis Courts (or up the stairs outside indoor courts.)

2) All athletes will play two matches for doubles. If they are also playing singles they will play 2 singles matches.

3) All players should wear tennis shoes and shorts. NO JEANS. They will have lunch on Saturday. Friday attendees should eat lunch before arriving. Everyone should bring snacks. Water is provided for on court competition.

4) We will not have the specific check in/start time for your match until the week prior to the games. Times/Schedule of play is subject to changeat any time. This depends on scratches and division changes and weather. We have arranged to update changes (if we know them) via email from Lynn Gillen/Special Pops Tennis. You may receive this same paper work from her also. Please check your email before you leave for your matches.

5) All unified partners should plan to get their medals along with their athletes.AWARDS TO FOLLOW THE LAST MATCH PLAYED IN YOUR DIVISION
