Greetings Clann Folk

September 2010 Letter

From Our Clann Chief

Greetings Clann Folk:

I trust everyone is doing well and having a good summer. However, it is with great sorrow that I report the passing of Jon Eldeen on August 10. At this time I do not know the cause but, I do know that he will be missed.

The “I Am Come Home” event will be held at Niagara Celtic Heritage Festival” in Olcott, NY at Krull Park. The dates are Sept. 18 and 19. Please let me know if you plan to attend . That way, I can let the Prince know how many are coming and to plan for food.

I can say from personal experience that The 2010 Glasgow Highland Games meeting of the Clann was a rousing success. There were eight Septs represented (KY,FL,TN,OH,AL,GA,WV,MN). Thanks to Ralph Gentry, Kentucky Chief, for another excellent weekend. Clann of the Wolf won the prize given to the Clan with the best representation and spirit during the “Meeting of the Chief of the Games” which, this year, was Kenneth Trist Urquhart of Urquhart, Chief of Clan Urquhart. This is the second time we have won. The Clann dinner on Saturday night was excellent again. There must have been at least 50 people there probably more. And guess what. I got to eat first.

The 2010 Culloden Event has come and gone, regrettably, I was unable to attend but I hear it was, again, a fine time. Go to to get the full scoop.

There was an event, a first annual event to be exact, held at the Fabulous Wormsloe Plantation in Savannah, GA the first weekend in May past. It was the brain child of Jeff Bills, Chief of Florida and Jillian (Knight) Minor, Chief of Georgia. We had about 20 participants from GA, FL, OH, TN. The weekend included cannon firings courtesy of Russ Berry and Fred Davis who came down from Ohio and brought a cannon. There were also battle re-enactments from the War of Jenkins Ear. Special thanks go out to Jason “Cabin Boy” Grotheer who is on the staff at the Plantation and our old friend John Booth who volunteers there. They had the camp ready for everyone in advance and saw to it that we had everything we needed. Great job, men. The only down side was the heat. We hope to do this in April next year if it can be scheduled around other events.

Last, but certainly not least, we have one nominee for Cadet. It is Russ Berry of the Ohio Sept. If there are any other nominations, please submit them to me or Lucky Dave by Oct. 1 so we have time to hold elections.
