Re:Cultural Resources Assessment for the Proposed City of Vernon Power Plant, Los Angeles County
Dear Native American Heritage Commission:
Greenwood and Associates is preparing an Archaeological Survey Report (ASR) for the proposed City of Vernon Power Plant that will meet current archaeological standards and be in compliance with relevant Federal cultural resource guidelines. The information previous request sent to the Commission regarding this project (William Self, June 26, 2001, reply by Rob Wood, July 11, 2001) is being supplemented because the previously proposed power plant has been modified from a simple cycle to a combined cycle type, and a reclaimed water pipeline corridor has been added to the original design. Therefore, additional environmental analysis is required.
The project consists of the proposed power plant to be located within an existing power plant facility, an associated 1500-foot linear corridor for a natural gas pipeline, and a 1.8 mile-long reclaimed water pipeline corridor. The pipeline corridors are entirely within City streets in the City of Vernon, Los Angeles County, except for a small section of the reclaimed water pipeline corridor, which is located in the City of Huntington Park. The project location is indicated on the enclosed quadrangle maps (USGS 7.5' South Gate 1964, photorevised 1972, and Los Angeles 1966, photorevised 1981).
Please consult the Commission's Sacred Lands Inventory and send us a list of any such lands within a one-half mile radius of the project area, and a list of interested Native Americans. If you have knowledge of any unrecorded sites or special concerns for this area, we will gladly include your comments in our report.
Thank you for your time and attention to this request.
Sincerely,
