Role purpose and context

Gateway is a new debt advice service seeking to serveresidents from Collyhurst, North Manchester and beyond. We have a number of newly trained debt advisors and aim to provide debt advice and casework support to people in the area. We wish to recruit a person with appropriate experience in debt advice to manage and develop our centre, work their own case load and provide support and supervision to the centre team. The centre was recently granted its license from the Financial Conduct Authority and works in affiliation with Community Money Advice - a national charity that has enables community groups to establish local, free to client, face to face debt advice services, through the provision of a range of services.

Collyhurst is located immediately north of Manchester city centre and has a population of around 7,000. It is a residential area made up mostly of social housing managed by Northwards Housing. Deprivation statistics are among the highest in the country and we know the impact of debt adversely affects the lives of many who live here. This however is not the whole story; Collyhurst is a great place to live and many of its resident, with the help of Local Trust funding, are trying to make it an even better place to live. The Collyhurst Big Local is just about to embark on an intensive programme of activity and one of our objectives is to help the community as a whole to deal with a variety of social and financial issues. Gateway has its genesis in these community wide consultations. Local residents also have the ear of Manchester City Council who has a master plan for North Manchester which includes significant regeneration in and around Collyhurst.

The centre manager will be accountable to a management team who will require regular reports on all aspects of the centres work and development. The centre manager will be line managed by an appointee of the management team with whom there will be at least monthly meetings. The line manager and management team will be available to the centre manager for help and support whenever the need arises.
