Greek Mythology Project

My mythological figure is ______.

Assignment:

Your assignment is to research your mythological figure, think of a product or service that relates to that figure, write a description of the figure, design a poster to represent the product/service that you came up with, and present it to the class.

Workflow:

□Step 1: Research

First, you will research your mythological figure using any sources available to you. Avoid unreliable websites (such as Wikipedia). Do not restrict your sources to the internet… try a book!

□Step 2: Brainstorming

Next, brainstorm to think of a modern day product or service that relates to your mythological figure. As a homework assignment, you will turn in a statement of who your figure is as well as what product or service you chose. This is due on Monday, October 3, 2011.

□Step 3: Write

Write a short description of your god or goddess. A word to the wise: do not plagiarize. This description needs to be between 200 and 300 words in length. I prefer it typed in a size 12 Times New Roman or Arial font, but you may use blue or black ink if you must. You can include any pertinent information that you think is important. Some suggestions include:

  • a physical description of your figure
  • what their domains or special abilities were supposed to be
  • relationships between them and other figures (mother, brother, and so on…)
  • locations of major temples
  • a summary of any major myths that your figure is a part of
  • why you chose the product/service that you did for that mythological figure (You must have this!)

□Step 4: Create

You aretasked with decorating a poster as a representation of your product. You can design it as a label, an advertisement, or even depict the storefront. Be sure to include details and use the entire poster board. It is alright if you are not an artist, what matters here is that you put in some effort! Don't be afraid to use many different materials on your poster; your imagination is the limit.

□Step 5: Share

Lastly, you will present your work to the class. You will simply read your description, explain your poster, and there may be questions for clarification.

Assessment:

All three parts of the project will be a part of the final grade(poster [70%], description [20%], and presentation [10%]). Rubrics will be used to grade the poster and the presentation, the description will be graded as any other essay or composition would be, with attention to grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. The overall grade for this project will count as a major test grade. Your description and your poster are due on October 7, 2011, and presentations will start on or around that day.
