Greek God/goddess poster project

Objective: To make an informative and colorful poster illustrating one of the main Greek gods or goddesses.

Directions: Students will research his or her assigned god/goddess. Then, create a poster to be presented in front of the class.

Option 1 / Option 2
Make an informative poster. / Make a “Wanted” poster. (easier if you have a god/goddess who did bad things.)

Requirements: Each poster should include the following:

  • The name of the god, clearly shown.
  • His or her relationship to Zeus (if any).
  • An image of the god/goddess properly attired for a classroom presentation, and equipped with objects often associated with the gods in general, or that particular god/goddess.
  • Other images associated with the assigned god/goddess, such as symbols.
  • A neat and brief summary of the god/goddesses story/myth, written in student’s own words. For option #2, this should be done in a story format, using the myth as a guide.
  • Use of color.

Presentation: Students should provide the teacher with a notecard or outline to be turned in with poster. Students may use it during his/her presentation, and it should contain the same information on the poster, but in more detail.

Grading

Projects will be graded with the following weight:

  • Content: 50% (information is accurate and complete)
  • Creativity: 30% (including neatness and use of color)
  • Presentation: 15% (including clarity of speech, and readiness.)
  • Works Cited: 5% (listed on back of poster, 2 sources needed, MLA format)

Rubric for Content Portion of Wanted Poster/Poster:

40-50

  • Content provides enough description and is accurate.
  • Very few writing convention errors.
  • Titles, description and picture are neatly written, placed and cut.
  • Color and creativity make the poster attractive and interesting.

30-40

  • Content mostly provides enough description and is mostly accurate.
  • A few writing convention errors.
  • Titles, description and picture are mostly neatly written, placed and cut.
  • Color and creativity mostly make the poster attractive and interesting.

20-30

  • Content somewhat provides enough description and is somewhat accurate.
  • Some writing convention errors.
  • Titles, description and picture are somewhat neatly written, placed and cut.
  • Color and creativity somewhat make the poster attractive and interesting.

10-20

  • Content does not provide enough description and is not accurate.
  • Many writing convention errors.
  • Titles, description and picture are not neatly written, placed and cut.
  • Color and creativity do not make the poster attractive or interesting.

  • Zeus (Jupiter, in Roman mythology): the king of all the gods (and father to many) and god of weather, law and fate
  • Hera (Juno): the queen of the gods and goddess of women and marriage
  • Aphrodite (Venus): goddess of beauty and love
  • Apollo (Apollo): god of prophesy, music and poetry and knowledge
  • Ares (Mars): god of war
  • Artemis (Diana): goddess of hunting, animals and childbirth
  • Athena (Minerva): goddess of wisdom and defense
  • Demeter (Ceres): goddess of agriculture and grain
  • Dionysos (Bacchus): god of wine, pleasure and festivity
  • Hephaistos (Vulcan): god of fire, metalworking and sculpture
  • Hermes (Mercury): god of travel, hospitality and trade and Zeus’s personal messenger
  • Poseidon (Neptune): god of the sea
