Discussion was held on breast pump rental fees.

The Region II Perinatal Center Program Breastfeeding Services Directory is in the process of being revised. Contact Georgette Hall or Mari Jo Rosenbauer with any additions or changes.

The topic of fostering skin-to-skin contact at the area hospitals and mothers’ reactions was discussed. Mothers appear to be very receptive.

A study may be conducted at UC cooperatively with Proctor & Gamble who wants to synthesize vernix.

Free PDF – Kangaroo Care, costs analysis “Financial Impact of Kangaroo Care” is available. Linda Smith will put up the address on the GMVBFC yahoo group file.

Susan Ludington’s bibliography and handouts from Breastfest will be available on the OLCA Web site thanks to Linda Smith.

Georgette took orders from area hospitals for the “Hold Me, Mom” cards, and the “Top 10 Reasons to Breastfeed” bookmarks. Orders can be picked up at the CharlesR.DrewHealthCenter or at the next GMVBC meeting.

An article was written about stopping breastfeeding by 4 months of age because of the presence of methyl mercury. This article was countered with the benefits of breastfeeding and breastmilk negating the harmful effects.

There has been an upsurge on physician recommended supplementation of formula. Some weight measures skewed because of IV fluids given to mothers during labor.
