Greater Manchester NHS Careers Hub Manager

An exciting and challenging role has been developed to lead the newly created Greater Manchester (GM) NHS Careers and Engagement Hub, hosted by Central Manchester University Hospital NHS FT (CMFT) in partnership with GM NHS Trusts. It is recognised that the range of careers and opportunities available within the NHS are vast andaspirational but sometimes confusing and overwhelming to people who want to explore their options.

Often the best way to find out more is to ask - and so several NHS Organisations in GM have come together to form a regional ‘Careers Hub’. The Careers Hub will offer a more coordinated and effective method of careers advice, engagement and information for the general public, in particular schools, colleges, training providers and employment support organisations. It will provide information about the career area of interest; signpost enquires and coordinate staff engagement and presence at local careers and engagement events.

The Role

This is a unique opportunity to set up and deliver a new and innovative service for the benefit of the future and current NHS workforce and residents living within Greater Manchester. Based within the Directorate of Human and CorporateResources at CMFT the role of Careers Hub Manager will involve all aspects of management of the Careers Hub from inception to completion:

  • Setting up a ‘helpdesk’ service, working strategically and operationally to ensure that all enquiries and requests are dealt withefficiently and effectively.
  • Increasing the number of NHS staff engaged in supporting educational and employment opportunities for GM residents – increasing the ‘sign up’ from NHS professionals to be ‘Ambassadors’ for the NHS
  • Increasing the number of participants, particularly those form protected or disadvantaged groups, accessing education and employment opportunities within the NHS in GM.
  • Line managing project staff

The Person

You will need to be a highly motivated, customer-focused and organised individual with excellent communication and negotiation skills. You will be able to work both strategically and operationally to set up, deliver and monitor an exceptional regional NHS careers Hub. You will be used to working to deadlines, and using problem-solving skillsand creative thinking in order to deliver the expected milestones and outcomes in the agreed project timeframe. You will have knowledge of best practice in careers advice and activities, of service development and management and managing change.

You will also have strong values around equality and inclusion, an understanding and empathy for people experiencing disadvantage, a passion for ‘levelling the playing field’ and helping people, from all backgrounds achieve their full potential.

Development and training on current and future best practice in careers and engagement will be available. You will undertake yearly appraisals and are encouraged to actively own and participate in the development of their personal development plan.
