REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
October 14, 2007
A regular meeting of the Greater Manassas Baseball League Board of Directors was held at the Manassas City Police Department on the above date with the following attendees:
Attending Board Members: Mary Clarke, Dave Cogar, Bill Finnie, Kevin Jennings, Wendy Jennings, Erik Kershaw, Kenny Loveless, Clayton Miller, John Mingus, Kim Payne, Kevin Streets, Greg Sutherland, Ronnie Thomas, Ray Walker
Absent Board Members: Larry Bruns, Angie Cook, Jay Shepard, Bill Withers
Other Attendees: Jennifer Minson, Rick Bill, Joe Daley
President Cogar called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.
CONSENT AGENDA
President’s Report:
§ Lights/Utility Issue – Dave setup meeting with City Manager Larry Hughes to further discuss
§ Babe Ruth Districts redrawn: District 8 includes Greater Loudoun, Eastern Loudoun, Manassas, and Stafford. District 9 includes Winchester, Fauquier, Rappahannock, Warren County, Summit Point
§ Dave had meeting regarding Gainesville Little League’s interest in becoming a Babe Ruth League. Potential issues: boundaries, merging of the leagues, establishing East/West BR division for the county.
§ GMBL Website – Dave and Bill met with a few Service Providers, still reviewing options. Want to keep GMBL Domain name.
§ Field 5 Press Box – Permits were completed. Robert Bell working on Blue Prints.
§ Season should wind up with Senior Babe Ruth by Mid-November.
Vice President’s Report:
Nothing to Report.
Secretary’s Report:
Reviewed and approved 9/9/07 minutes. Erik Kershaw made a motion to approve the minutes. Kenny Loveless seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report:
Financial reports were handed out and reviewed. Erik Kershaw made a motion to approve the reports. Kevin Jennings seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Directors’ Reports:
§ Sponsorship/Fundraising:
Sold out of 50th T-shirts and Baseballs.
§ Fields & Grounds: City fixed all the lights. Home plate on Field 2 was fixed.
§ Equipment & Uniforms: Need to order baseballs for Havoc if held, will be ordering soon for Spring.
§ Snack Bar:
Need to schedule Fall Cleanup at the end of season.
§ Publicity: Fall Pictures went well. Tentative date May 3rd or 8th for next Spring with Olson’s.
Commissioners’ Reports:
§ Blastball/T-Ball: No issues.
§ Rookies: No issues.
§ Minor A: Verbal complaints about playtime from one team. Asked to document in writing.
§ Minor AA: Verbal complaints only. Asked to document in writing.
§ Majors: Lightning issue complaint discussed. Discussed use of lightning detector merely as a guide. Umpire owns the call usually.
§ Prep/BR: No report.
§ Senior BR: No report.
OLD BUSINESS
§ GMBL WEBSITE – Discussed in presidents report. Mentioned companies to consider Vasi for example. Tournament Rules need to be communicated to all Managers since rules on GMBL Site are old by-laws due to website backup problems.
§ TOURNAMENT TEAM COMMITTEE STATUS – Looking at what went well this year, how to organize teams earlier if possible, what rules changes need to be considered.
§ BOYS n GIRLS CLUB Meeting – Held initial meeting. More to come.
§ Mary provided 1984 Lease with City – which represented 5 year contract. This is similar format to what Dave Cogar just signed.
NEW BUSINESS
§ Coaching and Kid Clinics – were discussed to coordinate with other organizations. I.e. - Sandlot, Coangelo, using Existing Coaches, Potomac Nationals, etc…
§ BABE RUTH 2008 CERTIFICATION – new requirement for online course will be required to manage/coach in GMBL. 50 questions which review 25 rules/25 drills. Will need to be tied to coaches’ applications for Spring. Clayton to send out notification and web link so coaches can proceed immediately.
§ 2008 BOARD ELECTIONS –
The following persons were elected to the Board of Directors: Mary Clarke, Dave Cogar, Angela Cook, Kevin Jennings, Wendy Jennings, Kenny Loveless, Clayton Miller, John Mingus, Kim Payne, Kevin Streets, Greg Sutherland, Ronnie Thomas, and Ray Walker.
The following Board members were elected to the Executive Board: President – Dave Cogar; Vice President – Clayton Miller; Treasurer – Wendy Jennings; Secretary – Kim Payne
