Scholarship Packet

The purpose of the San Antonio Merit System is to encourage chapter member participation. Points will be collected for different activities and members will be eligible for nursing educational scholarships or reimbursement for nursing education on the basis of points earned.

General Information

  1. All funds awarded from the San Antonio Chapter AACN are awarded only to chapter members and are non-transferrable between chapter members. The applicant must have been a National and Local member for 1 year prior to receiving funds.
  2. The applicant must apply with a specific program, book or journal listed. Such program, book or journal shall be content-related to the development of expertise in critical care nursing.
  3. The name of the reward recipient will be published in the (chapter name) Chapter AACN Newsletter.

II.Guidelines

  1. Points may be accrued for 1 year only.
  1. Maximum points accruable per year will be 65.
  2. Points must be redeemed during the fiscal year immediately following accumulation. The Board may grant an exception to this guideline.
  3. The fiscal year is July 1 through June 30.
  1. Points may be used in total during the year. An application for a scholarship or reimbursement (with receipts) must be submitted with each request.
  2. Points may not be used to pay membership dues for AACN or any other professional organization.

Point Redemption

  1. Points will be redeemable at $10 per point with the highest redeemable value of $650 for 65 points. If the sum total of the applications exceeds 25% of the Chapter treasury, the Board of Directors will decide the dollar value of the points.
  2. Applications for Scholarship must be requested one month prior to appropriating monies. Application should be submitted to the Scholarship Chairperson or Co-Chair for review with supportive documentation by April 1st.

Key points to remember

  • You may only apply for one scholarship during the July - Juneboard year.
  • The completed scholarship information,including the completed point section, must be received by the due date – please send electronically to and
  • The application must be complete, with all the required areas addressed.
  • You may need to show proof for point application from the following:
  • CEUs from programs
  • Copy of National AACN membership
  • Copy of AACN certifications
  • Copy of program if coordinator or presenter.
  • Answer questions at end of application
  • All Scholarship funds must be used and the receipts turned into the Treasurer by the end of June.
