Activity1.2.1 – Animal Business

Purpose

Do you know where milk comes from? Many people might answer that it comes from the grocery store. But, how did it arrive there in the first place? Again, some may say, by way of a tractor-trailer or even by cargo train. Well, they would be correct, but milk actually comes from farm animals.Milk does not always come from a dairy cow, but from other animals, such as goats.

The dairy industry is very specialized and is just one of many involved in the care and production of animals. There are a multitude of career opportunities in the dairy industry, such as the dairy farmer, laborers on dairy farms, equipment suppliers for dairy farms, designers of equipment for dairy farms, transportation laborers and managers, and the full array of processing after the milk is transported to the manufacturers of various dairy products.

Everyone wants to have a career someday that is rewarding and maybe even fun. Animal agriculture is a wide-ranging field with many part-time jobs you can hold now as well as future career opportunities within numerous animal related industries. From food and fiber production to companion animals, the potential to pursue careers in animal agriculture is endless.
