The 25 January 2007 business meeting of the Greater Central Texas Council of the Navy League of the United States (GCTC) convened at 12:05 PM at the Red Lobster South in Austin, Texas with President James Brotherton presiding and with 16 members in attendance.

Minutes of the previous meeting:

Minutes of the 7 December 2006 Annual meeting were read by the president. Tim Hunsberger moved and George Haley seconded a motion to approve the minutes as read. The motion passed.

Minutes of the 15 November 2006 business meeting were corrected to add Capt Gabe Salazar, USN added to the list meeting with Senator Cornyn. The minutes were accepted as corrected by the motion from Ned Ash and seconded by Tom Uhl.

Treasurers Report

George Haley had no written report of the 2007 Budget. He will disseminate a copy when available. Discussion by Max Miller requested that funds be included to cover the costs of guests relevant to the speakers’ subject. It was suggested that the budget item be $200. Jack Ritter suggested the formation of a committee for this issue. George Haley will form the committee

UT NROTC – CO/XO

CAPT Salazar reported that classes had started and everything was running smoothly. He stated that flag officers wanted to come and speak to the unit. CAPT Salazar reported that

Admiral Nathman will be able to speak 9 March 2007, replacing Senator Cornyn who has not finalized an agreement to speak.

Agenda for 15 Feb Dinner meeting

Lee Hagen reported no information was available as of this date for the Color Guard. Max Miller reported that all was arranged for Professor Brands to speak. He reported that a framed print of the Battleship Texas would be available for the raffle. Bruce Byron reported that AWC had no published menu as of this date. The song leader will be assigned ahead of time and will be either Judy Cooley or Nita Wathen or Phil Darby.

VP Reports:

Operations – Lee Hagen – no report

Administration – Tim Hunsberger – no report

Education/Speakers – Ned Ash:

A handout of the prospective speakers was distributed. There was discussion of the availability of Admiral Bill McCraven, a UT EX class of ’78, for the reunion of the NROTC unit. There was no confirmation as of this date. CAPT Gabe Salazar will continue to ascertain his availability to speak.

Legislative Affairs – Jeanie Coffee – no report – sent her regrets

Chaplin – Jim Lindley

He needs list of deceased for the Two Bell ceremony at the 15 Feb meeting. Tom Griffy will do the ceremony. The bell and a ringer will be provided by the UT NROTC unit.

Secretary – Jack Mayo – Absent

Judge Advocate – Michael Murray – no report, absent

Directors Reports:

Max Miller reported that name tags are in and distributed those ordered by members.

Glenn Looney reported that the Lone Star Region meeting will be 5 May, in San Antonio. It is a two-day event. The location is yet available. A training session for new Council Officers, open to all, will be held by Glenn Looney, 3 Feb from 10-12 at Camp Mabry Armed Forces Museum.

Glenn Looney also discussed an email copy sent to him concerning Sea Cadets sponsorship. He will forward a copy of the email to all present. There was discussion of the liability and responsibility of the Council as regards the Sea Cadets.

As no further business was presented by those assembled, the meeting was adjourned at 12:55 PM.
