Well done to the Lazenby Boys
Late withdrawals from the 5,000m event at the National Championships for athletes with a learning disability resulted in Dave & Chris Lazenby racing against each other and the clock. Chris came away with the gold medal and Dave the silver. However perhaps more significant was the fact that they caught the attention of the National Learning Disability Long Distance Coach and he is interested in including them in the squad for next years World Cross Country Championships in Brazil.

Rugby 6Mi - Wednesday 16th May 2012
It was a great night for both Wootton Road Runners male and female teams at the Rugby 6 mile race on Wednesday evening. The 2nd round of the East Midlands Grand Prix Series took place on the popular undulating Rugby course, with weather conditions being ideal. Richard was followed closely home by Veteran Richard Fowler, 35.37 and Damian Murphy in 37.48 to claim the Veteran team prize. Sarsen Trail Neolithic Marathon - Sunday 6th May 2012
I entered the Sarsen Trail Neolithic Marathon on sunday and came 100th out of 270 with a time of 4h 13 mins. And that was with walking the hills! ( must make a note to do some marathon training next time!)
It's a trail marathon distance between Avebury stone circle and Stonehenge, going over a huge ridge called Redhorn hill and crossing Sailsbury MOD plain. With added gunfire in places!
Quite a mixture of paths, grass, flint and chalk with some roadwork added for good measures. Stayed at a campsite nearby with some good pubs to rehydrate in, before and after. So maybe next year I won't be on my own in pink and purple at the starting line eh?

Sole Destroyer Adventure Race - Sunday 4th March 2012
At a soggy field in the valley below Little Houghton. 300 waited in the rain to run the Mucky Races 5 and 10Km off road race.
On a day that more rain fell than the whole of January and February put together , Matthew, Simon and Martin Fowler went through ditches, woods, lakes, obstacles and a 4x4 course to win the male team prize. Matthew was beaten overall to second position in the 10Km race, in the last field towards the finish. In a time of 39min 8sec.
So quick for an off-road event that the organisers questioned whether the first three had not done the 5Km course instead!! From the 196 runners in the longer race, Simon came 27th in a time of 48min 54sec ( not bad after 2 weeks training....the git! } and Martin followed in 49 min 41 secs.
Other Wootton Road Runners members punished themselves with a brilliant 5th and 8th female position by Morag Larsen in 48min 14sec and Barbara Willison in 50min 17 secs. 21st and 44th overall.
The event for us was supported for sponsorship by Northampton General Hospital and in the driving sleet and rain at the start I thought I might need It's services sooner than later. An interesting energy sapping course which would challenge the fearless members in the Club. So maybe next year, for a local race. and a cold beer in the accy. Then more of WRR could enter. Hay, we're not made of paper!
