MCEVOY’S BOOK RAISING MONEY FOR JUNIORS

Peter McEvoy OBE is giving golf clubs the chance to buy his new book at a special rate – and help junior golf at the same time.

‘For Love or Money’ is Peter’s hugely entertaining account of his life in the sport and is published by HarperSport on April 3 priced £15.99.

In an exclusive golf club offer, UK and Eire golf clubs can buy 20 copies – which are ideal to give away as prizes in club monthly medals and competitions – for the price of 18, a saving of £31.98.

And Peter will donate £2 from each book sold through golf clubs to The Golf Foundation – meaning that clubs taking advantage of the special ’20 for the price of 18’ offer will effectively be donating £40 towards the growth of junior golf in the UK.

Speaking in March 2006, Paul Hamblin (Editor of ‘Golf World’ magazine) described ‘For Love or Money’ as: “one of the top 3 golf books I have ever read.”

He went on: “Think of the golf day after-dinner speech you always wanted to hear: this is it. Hilarious, entertaining, blunt, revealing, packed with insight and delivered by an individual who commands unique respect."

Peter McEvoy said: "I'm hoping that golf clubs are going to buy my books and give them away as prizes this season.

“If we can get golf clubs doing this, it's a really good way to help The Golf Foundation and raise quite a bit of money for junior golfers."

Clubs wishing to take advantage of the special offer can buy online at www.petermcevoy.com, or call 01684 291345.

Following on from a distinguished playing career, Peter is arguably the most successful captain, pro or amateur, this country has seen, setting records with both England and Great Britain & Ireland.

In his time, McEvoy has encountered them all: precocious talents like Ronan Rafferty and Paul Way who never quite made it; from the timeless legends of Snead, Nicklaus, Player and Watson; through the golden European era of Faldo, Ballesteros, Lyle and Langer, to the present-day stars like Woods, Mickelson and Donald.

There are the hilarious stories, such as the top US golfer who used to wrestle alligators, and the scruffy Rhodesian pro whom manufacturers would pay not to wear their clothes.

But McEvoy also has serious questions to ask: is Tiger Woods a team man; why seasoned amateurs emptied the clubhouse to watch a teenage Nick Faldo but not Colin Montgomerie; and whether the aura that surrounds professional golf is merited.

Most of all, For Love or Money is the story of golf and golfers at every level through almost half a century. With a refreshing frankness that the modern professional would avoid, it’s a tale that only Peter McEvoy could have told.
