Great Basin National Park Strawberry Creek Camping Regulations

  • Camping is allowed only in designated primitive campsites containing a picnic table and metal fire ring. There are currently no fees.
  • Group size is limited to 15 persons, and/or 6 pack animals, and/or 6 vehicles. Larger groups must split up into smaller groups within these limits, and must camp at separate sites. Larger groups may request an exception to these limits from the Superintendent under the terms of a Special Use Permit.
  • Tents must be placed within 30 ft. of the site’s picnic table(s) and/or fire ring(s).
  • Pets must be kept on a leash (6 feet or less in length) or physically confined at all times and are not allowed on trails. Leaving a pet unattended and tied to an object is prohibited. Pet excrement must be disposed of in a trash bin by the person responsible for the pet.
  • General Quiet Hours are from 10 PM to 6 AM.
  • Generators may only be used between the hours of 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
  • Build fires only in park provided metal fire rings. Fires must be extinguished when not attended and must be contained within the fire ring. Building stone fire rings is prohibited within the park.
  • Only dead wood on the ground may be collected for firewood. Standing trees or shrubs, alive or dead, and trees/shrubs that are still attached to the ground may not be collected. Chainsaw use is prohibited in the park without a permit. Collection of Bristlecone Pine wood and any wood above 10,000 feet is not allowed.
  • Keep a clean camp. Collect all RV waste water. Dispose of waste water in park toilets or at the park RV dump station or transport out of the park. Small amounts of waste water (e.g. dishwater, no sewage) may be scattered away from campsites and at least 100 feet from any water source. All trash must be placed in trash cans or transported out of the park. Ditching or leveling of the ground is prohibited.
  • In undeveloped areas the disposal of human body waste shall be prohibited within 100 feet of any water source or developed trail. Human waste should be buried in a hole 4-6 inches deep in mineral soil. Toilet paper must be packed out and disposed of in park restroom facilities.
  • All unattended food, garbage or cooking equipment must be sealed in a vehicle or a solid, non-pliable, animal-resistant container.
  • Check-out time is at 12-noon daily.
  • Maximum continuous stay at any campsite is 14 days.
  • Operating any type of ATV or Off Highway Vehicle within the boundaries of Great BasinNational Park is prohibited. All other vehicles must remain on designated roadways.
  • All plant, animal, mineral, archeological and cultural resources are protected within the park. Possessing, destroying, injuring, defacing, removing, digging, or disturbing from its natural state any such resources or their parts while within the park is prohibited.
  • Hunting and trapping are prohibited in the park. Possession and transportation of game animals is prohibited in the park.
  • Loaded firearms may not be possessed within the park. Firearms must be unloaded or rendered inoperable and secured within vehicles while in the park.
