CGW 4UI: World Issues Final Summative

Instalment 1: Portfolio

Learning Goals:

  • “I can accurately analyze and research a world issue and identify the associated viewpoints and concerns involved while following the inquiry process”
  • “I can analyze, evaluate and interpret information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate this information“

Task: You are responsible for finding current, relevantsourcesrelated to your final assessment topic. You will then create a simple portfolio outlining the credible sources that offer valuable information. I expect to see this information in your final seminar. Remember: issues are controversial. Don’t just explore the problem, but all sides of the issue, and background information.

PortfolioRequirements:

1.)For your first instalment, you must create a portfolio which indicates a variety of sources that offer credible and valuable information for your final summative. You must include the following sources in your portfolio:

Documentary (1)

Graphics / Spatial Data (i.e. map with data, pie charts, graphs, etc) (1)

News articles: mainstream (min 1)

News articles: alternative (min 1)

Others (at least 2 of the following)

2.)For each of the above, you will complete an APA bibliography entry, and complete the following template (or a similar version) and analyse accordingly. Please submit on google.

  • Documentary analyzes how people fall victim to human trafficking
  • Explores the history of human trafficking dating back to slave trade
  • Punishments for human traffickers are also explored, and the need for strict regulations internationally
  • Documentary discusses Canadian criminal code and current penalties for offenders, asking if there is a need to review current penalties

  • Present data to indicate how large this issue is and find map to indicate where the biggest concerns are globally
