In addition, you will learn about culture in France and Francophone countries and prepare to take the French Advanced Placement test.
Textbook : We will be working out of several books including Bien Dit!,APprenons, andTrésor du tempstexts that will help you prepare for the AP exam and review advanced grammar and vocabulary. Additionally, we will also use other materials in class including short readings, videos, songs, and listening and speaking activities in order to help you practice your language skills.
Materials:You will be expected to bring the following materials to class every day:
~ French/English dictionary
~ Notebook paper
~ Pen or pencil
Tutorials:Tutorials will be held MWF. The hours are before school by appointment and after school by appointment until 5:00 pm.
Grading: 50% Major summative: tests, essays and projects
50% Minor summative: quizzes(x2), speaking calendars (x2) and in class activities
Each of your grades for the 2 nine week grading periods will be averaged to determine your semester grade.
*Please note that the semester exam will be worth 20% of your semester grade.*
Make-up Work:In the event of an expected absence, including participation in extra-curricular activities, please take tests and quizzes and receive assignments you will be missingbeforeyou are absent. The missed assignments will be duethe day the student returns to school. In the case of unexpected absences, you will have the number of days missed plus one to complete missing work. You must arrange with me a time to take quizzes or tests before or after school. Failure to sign up within one week of returning to school or failure to show up when scheduled will result in a 0 for the test or quiz grade.
Late work:Late work will only be accepted up to10 daysafter the end of a unit of study. Units of study are normally marked by a quiz or test.
Projects:Projects are normally due after the end of a unit of study. Students who do not bring their projects on the due date may submit their project the following class day; however, there may be additional project components required because of the additional time taken.
Oral Participation:It is very important that you try to speak French in class, both with me and with each other. You will be given a calendar on which you rate yourself daily on the amount of French you spoke in class. The calendars will be signed by me at the end of each class and collected at the end of the six weeks. Grades will be averaged for that nine weeks and a minor summative grade (x2) will be given for oral participation. The grading scale is included on each month's calendar.
Restroom Policy:Please try to take care of personal business during the passing period so that you can devote your time to actively participating in class activities; however, the leaving of class to go to restroom will be at M. Davis’ discretion. Abuse of this privilege will result in its removal.
