Big River Clean Up

Graigue Canoe Club, Sunday June 12th at 9am

On Tuesday June 14th as part of Eigse Carlow the barges are coming to Graigue so let’s have our river sparkling. Accordingly, the fabulous Graigue Canoe Club in conjunction with Mr. Tidy Ryan are doing a big river clean-up from Tinnahinch Lock to Ballykeenan, and beyond, if we get enough helpers. The rubbish on the water will be collected by the canoes. Since the major floods, we are of the opinion that there is more rubbish on and behind the banks so we will need extra people collecting on the banks, especially at the Pitch and Putt. As its bird nesting season, best not to approach the nest, take note of the rubbish and it will be collected later in August. So put on your old clothes and hurry along to the Canoe Club next Sunday morning. Gloves, bags and metal pickers provided.

Ballyellen Graveyard

Mass in Ballyellen Graveyard on Friday 10th of June at 7.30pm.

Barrow Line Update

Planning permission for the development of the Barrow line is likely to proceed in July / August. Pre planning discussions will take place with Carlow county council before any application will be made. When planning is then submitted it will allow for further public consultation to take place.

From what I have been told by Waterways Ireland the surface for the walkway is likely to be gravel and not reinforced grass which is considered too expensive. This planning process will be on the Carlow side and any decision affecting the Barrow Line walk will be made by Carlow county council. If you want your say on what development takes place on the Barrow line it will have to be at the planning permission stage so be alert for any notice of such.
