Graduation Requirements

  1. Purpose: Develop curriculum frameworks for CTE courses that may be offered by high schools or skill centers whose content in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is considered equivalent in full or in part to science or mathematics courses that meet high school graduation requirements.
  1. Description of services provided: Technical work groups consisting of math, science, and CTE instructors developed 21 frameworks that were deemed equivalent to math or science. All frameworks were approved by the State Board of Education for Statewide CTE Course Equivalencies in Math and Science.

EPIC was chosen as the contractor for the Statewide CTE Course Equivalency project. Subject matter specialists from across the state were chosen to be part of the technical working groups. CTRE Statewide Course Equivalencies were validated by industry. Professional development is being provided for instructors and districts on the implementation of the frameworks.

14.  Statutory and/or Budget language: Budget Proviso: ESSB 6052, Sec. 1501 (aa) $287,000 of the general fund—state appropriation for fiscal year 2015 is provided solely for the purpose of implementing provisions of Engrossed Second Substitute Senate Bill No. 6552 (student hour and graduation requirements) related to career and technical education equivalencies. If the bill is not enacted by June30, 2014, the amount provided in this subsection shall lapse.

16.  List of schools/districts receiving assistance: All districts will be able to use the CTE Statewide Course Equivalency Frameworks. Per law, each district must provide students the opportunity to access at least one CTE course considered to be equivalent to mathematics or science.
