Graduate Science or Engineering Scholarship

Purpose:

The Graduate Science and Engineering Scholarship was created by the Intermountain Section of the AWWA to encourage science education and training related to the field of conservation, water quality, supply, resources, reuse or treatment and to support an outstanding undergraduate student in that field

Eligibility:

Students are eligible to apply who are pursuing a water related science or engineering degree in the Intermountain West. Students who have been accepted into a program but have not yet begun coursework are eligible to apply. Applicants for this scholarship are considered without consideration of race, gender, color, or creed. Students are eligible to receive an AWWA scholarship once per degree program.

Timeline:

The application and all required supporting materials must be received by the Intermountain Section of the AWWA no later than December 7th, 2015. The recipient will be notified and the award sum will be notified by a webinar after the New Year.

Support Provided:

This scholarship will be awarded as a one-time grant in the amount of $1,500 and a year’s IMS AWWA membership with educational and career opportunities.

  • A complete resume
  • An essay regarding your academic interests and career goals and how they are relevant to water quality, supply, or treatment in the Intermountain West.
  • Two letters of recommendation (submittal instructions on next page)

Selection Criteria:

Members of the Student Outreach and Scholarship Committee of the Intermountain Section of the American Water Works Association will review all submitted application materials

  • The applicant’s letters of recommendation
  • The quality of the applicant’s essay
  • The applicant’s potential to contribute to the field of water quality, supply and treatment in the Intermountain West.

Each applicant is asked to submit two letters of recommendation as part of the application process of the IMS AWWA Section scholarships. These letters can be written by an instructor or professor working closely with the applicant in an individual research program or course of study. The letters can be submitted by the student or by the person writing the letter on the student’s behalf.
