The Graduate Institute of International Development and Applied Economics (GIIDAE) is pleased to announce the availability of sevenbursaries for the following masters courses:

  • MSc Agricultural Economics
  • MSc Agriculture and Development
  • MSc Applied International Development
  • MSc Climate Change and Development
  • MSc Communication for Development
  • MSc Development Finance
  • MSc Environment and Development
  • MSc Food Economics and Marketing
  • MSc Food Security and Development
  • MRes Research Agricultural and Food Economics

The bursary will be worth £5000 towards payment of tuition fees for international students from Indonesia (5 awards available) and North America (Canada & United States of America – 2 awards available) only.

Conditions of Application and Award

Terms and Conditions

  1. To be considered, applicants must have an offer of a place on one of the programmes listed above at the time of application. If you have a conditional offer that includes English, we will need a copy of your IELTS test to show you can reach the required level,as indicated in your offer letter.
  1. Applicants must be students from either:Indonesia, Canada or the USA, paying tuition fees at the international rate (not from the UK/EU).
  1. Awards are intended to acknowledge and support applicants with good academic records.
  1. A maximum of one bursary will be awarded per applicant.
  1. An award will only apply for the 2016 -17 academic year and cannot be deferred.
  1. Successful candidates only will be contacted on an individual basis via email.
  1. The Graduate Institute reserves the right to offer no awards if no suitable applicants apply.
  1. Applications for a bursary must be received by 8 August 2016.
  1. No further funds will be awarded. Any other additional costs will be covered by the awardee (you). The University accepts no responsibility for any costs incurred in relation to the bursary.
  1. In taking up the bursary you agree to participate in relevant GIIDAE marketing activities.
  1. A selection committee will consider applications shortly after the deadline of 8 August 2016and successful applicants only will be notified by 11 August. The decision of the Selection Committee is final and not subject to appeal.

Criteria for Award

The panel will base its decision on a range of factors including academic excellence and the degree to which the applicant has demonstrated their suitability for an award. Bursary offers are made as fee reductions. Students may not accept more than one bursary or Scholarship offered by the Graduate Institute. Awardees must check that any other Scholarship that they have been awarded allows for funding from multiple scholarships and/or bursaries.

If you are a University of Reading Undergraduate, or alumnus who graduated in the last three years, you could be awarded a bursary in addition to the alumni discount.

How will my application be assessed?

Applications will be shortlisted according to the criteria set out in Conditions of Application and Award. A selection committee will consider applications shortly after the deadline of 8 August 2016and successful applicants only will be notified by Friday 11 August. The decision of the Selection Committee is final and not subject to appeal.

How will I know if my application has been successful?

Due to the large amount of applications expected, successful applicants only will be notified by 11 August. If you have not heard by this date consider that you have not been successful.

If my application is successful, how will the Scholarship be paid?

The Scholarship will normally be made as a fee reduction.
