Instructor: Prof. Marc Lavine

MBAMGT697 Clean-Tech Entrepreneurship

CleanTech is now one of the largest sectors for venture investment, indicating the potential for economic growth in this technology innovation space. The growth in this area is primarily driven by investments in energy, with substantial investments in water, transportation, advanced materials, and manufacturing processes. Clean technologies have the opportunity to deliver dramatic improvements in resource efficiency and productivity, creating more economic value with less energy, materials, and toxicity. This course will focus on value creation, with emphasis on how strategic business drivers (e.g. regulation, subsidy, and market valuation) influence innovation and investment, and how entrepreneurial businesses are responding to these drivers. A team-based project will focus on applying and integrating organizational, strategic, finance, and marketing tools to assess and formulate entrepreneurial business opportunities.

In addition to covering the basics of operations management students in this course will explore the significant environmental trends in the healthcare industry through a series of case studies to develop an understanding of strategic operations management and its integration into processes in the healthcare industry.

A number of e-publications on BI are provided and students are required to read them and write a short term paper on any topic related to BI that interests them. Weekly quizzes guarantees that students read the chapters in the book. A group project assigned where students need to apply the concepts and technology learned in the course to a real world situation.
