Graduate Assistantship

20 Hours – 2015 Spring Semester

Assessment & Student Development FY15

The Graduate Assistant for Assessment and Student Development will take a leadership role in the multi-faceted assessment, student development, and outreach programs in the Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education, UMD. The GA will support the organization and oversight of events and ongoing programs aiming to enhance matriculation, retention, academic performance, and graduation of multi-ethnic students. The job responsibilities include:

Assessment: Collecting both qualitative and quantitative data from students, faculty, and staff who use OMSE’s services. Data collection will be in various forms, such as online surveys, interviews, focus groups, and ethnography.Completion of IRB forms to conduct in-house research will also be necessary.

Program Assistance: Undergraduate student program planning, both large- and small-scale, such as In-House Meet & Greets and Alumni Galas for funds development.

Grant-Writing: Identifying eligible grants, writing grants, proofreading all elements, and completion of ORAA forms for grant submissions.

The qualified individual will be comfortable with routine assessment practices. The qualified individual will also be comfortable speaking one-on-one with students as well as with groups on a wide range of matters concerned with academic issues. Working collaboratively with the Associate Director to advance assessment practices, programmatic effectiveness, innovation, visibility, capacity-building, and other related duties as assigned by the Associate Director of the Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education, UMD. This position will require occasional evening and weekend work.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a graduate student who has experience designing and utilizing assessment tools, drafting grant proposals, and collaborating with individual students as well as student organization, faculty, and staff.

The candidate will also have experience with data collection using various methodologies. The successful candidate will have strong experience with programming that reaches diverse, multi-ethnic students, faculty, and staff. The successful candidate must have experience working with a wide range of racial/ethnic groups in addition to other visible and invisible forms of diversity. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral skills are essential. The candidate must be self-motivated,meet deadlines and timelines, and work well in teams.
