LESSON -2 THE FLIGHT OF ICARUS
Brief introduction of the lesson.
In a tale from ancient Greek mythology, there once lived a man named Daedalus, who was a builder and craftsman for the king. After some time, Daedalus fell from the king’s favour and was banished to the island of Crete.
Daedalus made secret plans to escape from the island with his son Icarus. He built two large pairs of wings using bird feathers and wax. Daedalus and Icarus then strapped the wings onto their arms, leapt into the air and flew!
Icarus was so excited that he flew higher and higher. Daedalus begged him to keep away from the sun, but Icarus flew closer. The sun’s heat melted the wax, the wings fell apart and Icarus fell into the sea and drowned.
