The Northern Territory Literary Awards recognise the achievements of Northern Territory writers.

Entries open Monday 21 March 2016 and close at midnight Friday 6 May 2016.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Northern Territory Library on Wednesday 27 July 2016 at 5.30pm.

ZipPrint Short Story Award

An original work of short fiction - up to 3000 words
$1000 cash prize and a free NT Writers’ Centre membership andmasterclass.

NT Writers’ Centre Poetry Award

A single poem - up to 300 lines and three entries per person
$1000 cash prize and a free NT Writers’ Centre membership andmasterclass.

Charles Darwin University Travel Short Story Award

A short story about travel or travelling - up to 3000 words
$500 cash prize and a free NT Writers’ Centre membership andmasterclass.

Charles Darwin University Essay Award

A referenced academic essay - up to 3000 words
$1000 cash prize and a free NT Writers’ Centre membership andmasterclass.

Kath Manzie Youth Award

An original work of short fiction or a single poem by a person aged 12to 18 years as of 1 January 2016 - up to three poetry entries per personwith a 300 line limit or a story up to 3000 words
$600 cash prize and a free NT Writers’ Centre membership and masterclass.

Browns Mart Theatre Award

A playscript - no word limit.
$1000 cash prize, consideration for a rehearsed reading with Brown’sMart Theatre, Final Draft 8 scriptwriting software and a free NT Writers’Centre membership. All finalists will receive membership of the AustralianWriters Guild.

Southern Cross Television Flash Fiction Award

A blog post, fanfiction, short story, fictional diary entry or fictional letter- up to 500 words and three entries per person$500 cash prize and a free NT Writers’ Centre membership.

HOW TO ENTER

Email your submission to:

Please attach only one entry per email. For multiple entries, send aseparate email for each submission. Entries without the requestedinformation or not in the required format will not be accepted.

In the body of the email please include the following information:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Residential address
  • Postal address
  • Phone number
  • Title of submission
  • Category
  • Date of birth - required forKath Manzie Youth Awardentries only.

CONDITIONS

  1. Writers must reside in the Northern Territory at the time of submission.
  2. Each entry must be submitted individually to:
  3. Each entry must be a different piece of written work.
  4. All entries must be typed and presented on double spaced A4 pages and savedas a Microsoft Word or PDF document.
  5. The title of the work should appear on the entry submission, but to ensureanonymity, neither the author’s name nor any other identifying marks shouldappear.
  6. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered intoregarding their decisions.
  7. The Northern Territory Library reserves first publication rights, including onlinepublication.
  8. Writers retain individual copyright over their entries.
  9. A winning or shortlisted entry may, at the discretion of the Northern TerritoryLibrary, be withheld from publication.
  10. Entries written by two or more authors are not eligible for entry.
  11. Scripts are not to have been previously produced. Production scheduled after theclosing date of entry is permitted.
  12. Finalists’ and winners’ contact details will be made available to the NorthernTerritory Writers’ Centre and media organisations.

Submission of an entry will indicate the writer’s acceptance of these conditions. TheNorthern Territory Library reserves the right to refuse acceptance of a submissionshould it not adhere to these conditions of entry.
