Grade 2 – Miss Hesmert

Hello and welcome to Grade Two! September always brings excitement as we start a new school year and it is a time to set new goals. I am looking forward to getting to know your child and discovering how God has made him/her special and He has special plans for your child this year. Please pray for our class as we get to know each other and learn all the new routines of Grade Two. We want to glorify God in all we do!

Coming and Going:

Children in 2H will enter the classroom from the outside door. Please line up to the left of the door. I will open it promptly at 8:20am. If you arrive after 8:30, your child will need to get a late slip at the office before coming to class. Before the start of the school day, you and your child should decide on where his/she is to be picked up after school at 2:45pm.Students must arrive to school with an agreed upon pick up plan.Children should not be using the school telephone to arrange pick up.If you are running late, please inform the school. Students areNOTsupervised on the playground after school and it is the parent’s responsibility to monitor theirchildren.

Staying in Touch:

Each day your child will bring home an agenda that lists homework, Bible memory verse, reminders and any school handouts, which will be inserted into the pouch at the back of the agenda. Please read and sign the agenda daily so I know that you have received the information and have supervised homework. The agenda is also a useful tool in sending me messages. I will also sign their agendas daily. Please feel free to speak with me at the beginning of class, afterschool or email me at:

I will also be setting up a class blog to communicate what is happening in 2H at check the blog regularly for up-to-date information.

Homework:

Homework for Grade Two every day is READING! Please sit down with your child for 15 minutes every day and listen to them read you stories. Daily reading should be recorded on the green pages in the back of their agenda. Reading out loud will improve your child’s fluency, writing and spelling skills. Spelling and Bible memory verses will also need to be reviewed at home daily for their weekly tests on Fridays.
