We encourage you to coordinate your playing schedules with the band immediately in front and to the rear of your band.
- Units exiting off of I-64 need to use EXIT 58. All units are to arrive via U.S. 421 South, which will bring you into Wilkinson Boulevard (staging area). Click on the following link for the map: There will be Police and National Guard to direct you.
In order to ensure the lineup each unit is expected to arrive at time assigned below.
DIVISIONSARRIVAL TIMES

2.(Red)8:20 a.m.
3.(Green)8:40 a.m.
4.(Blue)9:00 a.m.
- The parade route is one (1) mile long. NO UNIT (band, chorus, drill team, etc.) will stop to perform at any time during the parade. REPEAT: no unitwill stop to perform at any time during the parade.
NOTE: All units must walk NOT MARCH across the Capital Avenue bridge.
- All unit members must be in uniform and ready to assemble upon arrival at the staging area. There are no facilities provided for changing into or out-of uniform. Once your unit is in line, please do not allow members to leave your unit. Do not begin marching until you enter the actual parade route. Except for warming and tuning up, bands should stand quietly and await any last minute instructions. NOTE: Bands in the Yellow Division are prohibited from warming up or tuning instruments from 8:15-9:30 a.m. due to the proximity to the Inaugural church service.
- It is very important to maintain a steady pace for the entire parade route.
There will be some stops and starts in the Yellow Division to allow the
Constitutional officers to take their place on the reviewing stand. There are to be noother stops in the parade. After your unit has passed the Governor’s reviewing platform (which is directly in front of the Capitol) it must continue moving as a unit. National Guardsmen will be stationed there to instruct you how to proceed to your buses. To avoid holding up the units behind you, it is imperative that your unit remain together and continue moving until you get back to your buses.
- There will be RESTROOMS available to the parade units along the staging route and at the Frankfort Convention Center (Wilkinson Blvd.)
- Throwing any objects from any unit will NOT be permitted.
- Be sure to follow the BUS INSTRUCTIONS LISTED BELOW:
All units must enter the staging area by heading south on Wilkinson Boulevard. Familiarize yourself with the map provided to make certain that you comply with this instruction. Please try to arrive in the least amount of vehicles as possible.
Band parents should not enter the staging area. We have limited space and are coordinating over 300 school busses. They should proceed to the shuttle parking areas behind the Cabinet for Human Resources Building, 275 East Main St.
There will be officials positioned throughout the parade staging area on Wilkinson Boulevard to assist you. Again, all units will be arriving via U.S. 421 South onto Wilkinson Boulevard.
After your bus is unloaded, the National Guard will escort all buses to Shelby Street for parking. Shelby Street is located at the end of the parade route where all unit members will load back onto their buses. BUS DRIVERS MUST REMAIN WITH BUSES in case they need to be moved during the parade due to an emergency.
- Also attached please find DIVISION SIGNS for your buses and other official accompanying vehicles. These signs must be placed in the lower right-hand windshield and the back window. This will allow parade officials to direct you to your assigned staging area.
NOTE: If you have any questions or are unclear about any instruction, please contact Barbara Atwood or Kathy Yount immediately at (502) 223-8687.
After 4:30p.m. Wednesday, 12-05-07, please call 502-875-8687 at any time if you must cancel your appearance or if you have any questions about directions.

From Kentucky State University turn right on E. Main (60/460)
Follow E Main thru several stop lights until you reach the intersection of US 60/421
Turn left this will place you on Wilkinson Blvd which will lead to the staging area for the parade.
I have attached a map which may help.
Hi John ( and everyone),
Thank you for heading this project up. I know this time of year is very
difficult to make something happen this monumental.
I wanted to confirm/remind us all of some specifics regarding the make
up of the band. Let me mention the complexion of the band from four
years ago and ask for input from other directors.
I believe the design of the band had the following guidelines. These
were designed after receiving feedback from directors.
1) A balanced instrumental/guard component from each university that has
a marching band.
1 drum major
2 flutes
2 clarinets
2 saxophones
2 horns
3 trumpets
3 trombones
2 baritones
2 tubas
1 snare
1 tenor
1 bass drum
1 cymbal
2 guard
Total 25 members
2) If a university could not provide that specific breakdown, still no
more than 25 from each group.
3) Any university/college that does not have a marching band
could/should still participate, but would not need to feel the pressure
of trying to provide a 25 member unit.
The reasons for this setup are:
1) It allows a mix of uniform colors throughout the entire band.
2) Allows the coordinators to know that a balanced band will be
available that day.
3) Prevents one group from over-balancing or providing just a drumline,
trumpet section, etc.
Also, in the past, some university administrators have expected their
entire university band to be present. This type of band make-up allows
for the band directors to demonstrate to administrators that their
university will be presented in a fair manner.
Again, John is coordinating this and I don’t want to interfere with his
plans. I just want to remind us all what we agreed to four years ago.
Should we continue with that plan?
Thanks for your consideration.

Good Morning!
I called the Democratic Party headquarters this am and spoke with
someone
regarding the parade.
No plans for a parade as of this am, but I did request for us to be
first in
the parade.
I hyped finals/juries/etc and the need for a speedy return to campus.
The traditional date is either Monday Dec 10th or Tuesday Dec 11th
I will follow up tomorrow morning and bulldog them for details.
Please check the email list..... Am I forgetting anyone???????
JF
Good morning
I am finally making some progress on parade plans
Tuesday the 11th is the date
We maybe 1st in the parade (I have been a bulldog about this), but definitely towards the front of the parade.
We may have to be in Frankfort very early to practice. More details later.
3 questions:
Do we want to do the traditional "Kentucky Home" Arrangement we have done in the past?? If you want, I could rescore it a tweak a bit, but it has worked quickly in the past.
There is always a ton of deadtime @ the staging parade. Should we just practice down there??We couldn't march, but could learn cadence and go over procedures, etc.
Do we want to do the Cadence we have used the past 3 times, or have something new written?? I’ll invite someone to do this. (also get a guard person to run them as well)
More Later
