Academic Honors Diploma Award / The Indiana General Assembly provides schools with $900 for each student who successfully completes an academic honors diploma. / Expenses related to the academic honors program or the high ability students program:

High Ability Funding
(Gifted and Talented Funds) / High ability students are defined as students who::
  • perform at or shows the potential for performing at an outstanding level of accomplishment in at least one (1) domain when compared with other students of the same age, experience, or environment; and
  • are characterized by exceptional gifts, talents, motivation, or interests.
DOE provides grants to school corporations for programs for high ability students. The district must submit a plan that:
  • Provides for multiple means of identifying high ability students, including procedures for students who may not be identified through traditional means because of economic disadvantage, cultural background, underachievement, or disabilities.
  • Sets forth appropriate education experiences in core curriculum areas for high ability students in kindergarten through grade 12.

Federal:
Title I Funds / Title I schools may use a portion of Title I funding for professional development including professional development for AP, IB and DC teachers. Title I schools that are “school improvement” are required to set aside ten percent of their Title I funds for professional development purposes. Note: Almost all AAE schools are Title I schools. /

PRE AP Workshop / The Indiana Association of Education Service Centers is providing regional workshops during the summer of 2010 to “set cornerstones for AP vertical teams” in partnership with the Indiana Department of Education. Participants will leave with 1) a step-by-step action plan, with built-in accountability, to form a vertical team, 2) a deeper understanding of the four cornerstones of vertical teaming teaming, and 3) a toolkit of concrete methods, research-based strategies, and proven techniques. /

The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education. / The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education. The program publicizes the availability of financial aid and assist participant with the postsecondary application process. Talent Search also encourages persons who have not completed education programs at the secondary or postsecondary level to enter or reenter and complete postsecondary education. /
  • Projects provide tutorial services, career exploration, aptitude assessments, counseling, mentoring programs, workshops, information on postsecondary institutions; education or counseling services designed to improve the financial and economic literacy of students; guidance on and assistance in secondary school reentry, alternative education programs for secondary school dropouts, entry into general educational development programs or postsecondary education; and programs and activities previously mentioned that are specially designed for students who are limited English proficient, students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in postsecondary education, students with disabilities, students who are homeless children and youths, students who are in foster care or are aging out of the foster care system or other disconnected students.
