September 2012

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Annual General Meeting of Goulburn & District Arts & Crafts Inc. was held on Saturday 15 September, 2012. Carol Divall gave the Annual Report and the audited financial statements were accepted.

A big vote of thanks to the retiring 2011/2012 Committee for all their hard work in getting the Gallery open and running so well.

Nominations were accepted for the new 2012/2013 Committee. Please welcome your new Committee:

Back Row (left to right): Patricia Morgan (President); Julie Elliott (Secretary); Fiona Hammond (Committee member).

Front Row (left to right): Faye Long (Vice President); Carol Divall (Committee member); Elaine Bill (Committee member); Tig Hobcroft (Committee member), and Jane Lyons who was not able to be present, (Treasurer). Alex Mortensen (also not able to be present) has accepted the role of Public Officer.

Congratulations to the Committee, who will guide GDAC’s direction in the first full year of operation in its new building – an exciting task and certain to gain all members’ support and help.

WELCOME

Because of the AGM papers, there wasn’t a welcome to new members last newsletter. So welcome:

Rae Wellings, Rhonda Garner, Julie Woods, Claire Ayling, Sharmaine Wright, Richard Manning, Robyn Toohey, Karen Moorby, Janet Docker, Alison Davies, Julie Elliott, Danielle Baird, Virginia Boyd, Helen Buck, Annette Talbot, Margaret Harper, Tammy Ahearn, Verdi Barberis, Gloria Bothe, Maggie Corby, Michelle Giles, Julie Warburton, Greg Piper, Gail Cullen, Jackie Crace. The Goulburn Gem Society and TAFE Arts & Media, Goulburn Campus has also joined as an organisation.

Welcome to all. We have 111 individual members and 5 organisational members. This time last year, we had fewer than 50 members, so it is very heartening to see people being excited about GDAC and Gallery on Track. We are going from strength to strength – to help that growth, introduce as many people as you can.

PUBLICITY

As well as word of mouth, there are flyers and business cards which can be distributed. Tig Hobcroft is compiling a list of motels/B&B’s etc. in the Goulburn area, so that publicity can be put in each. If you have already put some in a place, - and also if you are willing to distribute to some of these places and, perhaps some venues in your area, could you let Tig know at Having a list allows us to cover venues consistently and makes follow up easier. Perhaps, too, you might like to letter box drop on your morning walk?

EXHIBITIONS TO PARTICIPATE IN……

‘BODY OF WORK’ – entries are still open to contribute to this special exhibition. Opening in the Gallery on Saturday 2 February, 2013 and closing on 24 February, 2013, this exhibition explores the way the body can be decorated. Work will be accepted in all mediums – photography, painting, sculpture, etc., 2D or 3D. A prize – voted on by GDAC members only – of $100 will be awarded. It has been an excellent response to date – why not join in and enter your work?

Entry forms are available in the selection room or ring Carol Divall on 4821 2572 for further information.

WORLD AIDS DAY EXHIBITION – in conjunction with World Aids Day on 1 December (Red Ribbon Day), Gallery on Track will be holding an exhibition – in which you can be represented – with a theme of red. All media will be accepted, providing a majority of the work is red. A grant is being sought to cover costs and to provide prize money for the exhibition. The winners (a maximum of four) will be shown in the GRAG foyer.

Stay tuned for more details, but get started on your entry, as there is not much time before December!

MARULAN ART SHOW – Entries are invited for the Marulan Art Show, which opens on Friday 19 October. All media is accepted (except photography unless part of a collage). Some of the conditions are: an entry fee of $3 per entry, with a limit of 3 entries per person and all works must be for sale, 20% commission will be taken. Entry forms and payment must be received by 10 October. Should you like an entry form, please email Robyn Primrose at or ring 4823 6110 or contact The Secretary (Marulan) on 0419 397 399.

DOLL & CRAFT SHOW – As part of the Lilac Festival, the annual Doll & Craft Show is on at the RSL club on 30 September. It promises to be more craft than dolls this year. It’s undercover in the RSL, so you don’t have to worry about the weather. $20 per stall, ring the Lilac Time Committee on 4821 1839 for more information.

GOINGS ON IN THE CRIB ROOM

  • Welcome back to the Goulburn Patchworkers , who meet in the Crib Room on the 1st and 3rd Monday from 10-2. All are welcome.
  • A new group is meeting on the 2nd , 4th and 5th Monday, also 10-2. This group is a general craft group – knitting, sewing, etc. All are welcome.
  • Jane Lyons is teaching various aspects of drawing and painting on Thursday evenings. Ring Jane on 0429 872 436 for more information.

GALLERY

  • A little hint – if you have a number of the same item at the same price, you can put them under the same number. For example; if you have six scarves @ $42.00, you could invoice them as A023 (your relevant number) with 6 on hand. Give the individual price on your invoice.
  • Cards don’t need a swing tag. Sticky labels are fine. The barcode will be put on the back of the card.
  • If you are taking work out of the gallery, please complete an invoice indicating which items you are taking out – and it’s a good idea to attach the swing tag to the invoice. The invoice and swing tag will be put in your file in the selection room, so that if you put that item back in the gallery, you can re-use the swing tag.
  • It is preferable that you let Carol know when you are taking goods out of the gallery, so that she can fill the gaps.
  • Be aware that your artwork is processed as soon as possible. However, the speed of processing is dependent on the availability of volunteers entering each item into the database. We have a few people to do this, but more would be a great help. It’s not difficult and you will be taught, so can you spend a little time every now and then to help? Email the gallery or let one of the Committee know you are able to help.
  • We have a lot of enthusiastic exhibitors who are producing a lot of work. This is fabulous, but it means that your work will not necessarily be put out in the gallery immediately. Work is cycled through depending on various factors. And perhaps you might like to recycle your work? If it’s been there for 3 months or so, perhaps a refresh is in order?
