This is an introductory tutorial on how to use Google + for teleconferencing using video and audio. If your computer, or your partner’s computer does not have an integrated camera, you/they may add one via a USB port. Please note that there are many features that can be used in Google + such as screen sharing and photo album storage.

This is a nice way to get started….I would be happy to hear your comments on this tutorial and collaborate with you!

  1. Go to by clicking with your finger on “control” and pointing the mouse to the above hot link. Another option is putting the in the URL bar at the top of the screen.
  1. Create a free gmail.com account by clicking on the blue text that says “Create an Account.” Answer the brief questions to register.

3.Your efforts will be more efficient if you communicate with your team, (or individual) to be on their Google + home page. They will get there by following step 1 above. Remember you are now signing in with a “name @gmail.com” account. For example, . This is a common mistake to enter a wrong suffix like “.com” or “.org.”

4.Look to the banner on the top where it will have a “+” sign and your name. Mine says ‘“+” Gary.’

5.After clicking on the ‘“+” your name’

The following five icons appear. They represent various functions: home, photos, profile, circles, and games.

6.Have one member of your team, or in the case of working in pairs, designate one person to invite others to the hangout. Click on “Start a Hangout.” You will be queried who you want to invite. You may want to invite an entire circle/group or an individual.

7.The parties invited will receive an invitation in the right margin from the host to join the hangout.

8.If there are others in the group they should accept the invitation and join the hangout. You will be queried to do a sound check and a video check. This will show you a picture of you on the screen.

9.Within moments you will be in an audio and video chat with up to 10 people. You know you will be successful when you see a “thumbnail” size picture of the parties in your hangout on the bottom of the screen. The speaking party will have the large section in the middle of the screen.

NOTES:
CIRCLES: This is the area where you designate, by group, with whom you would like to communicate.

If you are not on your Google Home Page but you are in Google, you will get a message to join a hangout by the appearance of a number in a red box on the top right of the screen. If you are invited by 1 person you will have the number “1” in the box. Mouse click on your picture, or picture place holder if you have not inserted your picture, and click on “join the group.”

Presto! Within seconds you will have completed your connection and be ready for your teleconference!
