PROJECTS

Auto Scaling on EC2:

We developed an auto scaling infrastructure which can automatically scale number of instances on EC2 up or down according to the conditions defined by user. With Auto Scaling, user will be able to ensure that the number of Amazon EC2 instances scales up seamlessly during demand spikes to maintain performance, and scales down automatically during demand lulls to minimize costs.

Generic Message tracker:

A Web based Message tracking system for an enterprise system was developed to do analysis of message flow and optimize the system.

B. Tech. Thesis Project Advisor - Prof. Suresh Purini
This project will help people to share rides in a city. Registered users specify their ride timings, source and destination landmarks. We then match the ride-seekers and ride-givers and filter them according to their preferences. A graphic interface is provided to the user in which he can specify the source and destination landmarks using map or by typing it in.
Initially, a basic prototype was built to understand the needs of the project. Also, we evaluated CMS like Django, Drupal and cloud computing environments like GAE, EC2 to decide which suits our needs the best.
Technologies used were javaScript, J2EE(Servlets,JSP etc), JDO.

COURSE PROJECTS

·  Hadoop Hive and S3 (Semester Project for Course Cloud computing): We are working on a tool that will enable users to run hive queries on structured data stored in S3 (Simple Storage Service by Amazon) using a Hadoop cluster running on Amazon EC2. User will be able to submit his/her queries remotely.

·  Basic SOA Implementation using OSGi (Course Project for Internals of Application Server): A basic Service Oriented Architecture was implemented using OSGi containers. Components of the system were a service registry, service containers, a message broker and a process orchestration engine. All communications were mediated by ActiveMQ message broker. All components were hosted in different OSGi containers running in different JVMs. Load balancing and name lookup service were provided by service registry.

·  Event management Middleware system (Course project for Middleware systems): A three tier management system was implemented for management and coordination of large scale and regular events in campus involving a large number of organizers and participants. The technologies used in this project were: Servlets, JSP, RMI, Java Beans, SOAP, XML.

·  Intelligent Power Management system: A power management system was developed which tracks and records all usage patterns in a house hold for all the energy consumption. Warnings are sent to the home owner in case of a possible misuse of energy. User can also schedule the running time of electrical devices in home.
