GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA - 3RD AUGUST 2013

I would like to express my most sincere thanks to the Committee of the GRCSA for inviting me here to judge at their ‘Barbara Moore Memorial Championship Show’. It has been an honour and a privilege to have been part of this prestigious event.

My thanks to the committee for organising this show and to my ring stewards ‘Peter & Mari’ for looking after me in the ring and keeping things running so smoothly!

To all the exhibitors who entered and gave me the privilege of judging their beautiful dogs, Thank You, it has been a wonderful experience and a real pleasure to see such quality dogs.

My overall remarks today would include that the dogs I judged were in excellent muscular condition, well groomed and presented and mostly in good coat. Only a few dogs today lost out on a higher placing as they were just coming back into coat therefore not the full picture. I did not experience any faulty mouth pieces and most dogs were happy to be handled.

Baby Puppy Dog:

CHALEUR JAZZMAN JIVE

A happy outgoing sweet boy with lots of personality. Beautiful head, wonderful dark pigment, excellent bone and neat feet. Good rib, Excellent turn of stifle, straight hocks. Lovely topline and good tailset. Happy and active on the move.

Minor Puppy Dog:

GILTEDGE CAT GOT YOUR TONGUE

Beautiful 6 months old boy, Good size with excellent reach of neck leading to well placed shoulders and good length of upper arm. Level topline and tailset. Excellent turn of stifle and good straight hocks. Lovely head and expression with excellent dark pigment. Moved with good stride. Was a little apprehensive on handling. I think the weather had a bit to do with that.!!

Puppy Dog:

  1. KIRIEL IN MY FATHERS EYES

Fine upstanding young boy with good overall balance. Well chiselled head piece with lovely dark eye and good pigment. Clean neck and well placed shoulder leading to level topline and tailset. Good bone and neat feet, good depth of rib and short coupled, excellent hind quarters and straight hocks. Moved well

  1. BARADAV SKYS THE LIMIT (ai)

Lovely short coupled boy with good front angulation. Lovely reach of neck and clean shoulder placement. Well chiselled head with lovely expression and good pigment. Good bone and neat feet. Good topline but I would like a more level tailset. Straight hocks and moved well around the ring.

Junior Dog:

  1. FANTANGO PLAYING THE GAME (ai)

My star today! Took my eye the minute he entered the ring. Beautiful eye catching dog, with such a clean outline and balance. Beautiful head and expression with wonderful dark pigment.

Clean neck leading to well placed shoulders and excellent length of upper arm. Good depth of forechest with plenty of heart room. Solid topline and level tailset. Excellent spring of rib and short in loin. Excellent turn of stifle and good straight hocks. Good bone and neat feet. Moved round the ring with style and drive. Best Dog

  1. GOLDMARTINI YOU CAN KISS THIS (ai)

Presented a balanced outline, deep in forechest, short coupled, good topline. Shorter in leg than 1st but has good bone and feet. Strong head well chiselled and good ear set. Good spring of rib. Excellent turn of stifle and strong hocks. Tailset could be a bit more level and maybe could carry a little less weight. Moved round the ring with drive.

  1. FERNFALL NEVERENDING STORY

A little finer in bone than 1st & 2nd but with overall balance. Good front construction with good layback of shoulder. Good spring of rib and short coupled. Good head piece with kind dark eye and good pigment. Good topline and tailset. I would like more depth and width in stifle, straight hocks. Moved well around the ring.

Intermediate Dog:

  1. KIRIEL IL DIVO

Masculine young dog, standing four square presenting an overall balanced picture. Masculine head well chiselled with good pigment and kind expression. Excellent front angulation, strong topline and level tailset. Good spring of rib and short coupled. Good layback of shoulder and length of upper arm with good depth of forechest and plenty of heart room. I would have preferred more second thigh on stifle but overall this boy was good at the rear end. Moved with power around the ring.

  1. DEWMIST HIGHWAY OF HOPE (imp Sweden)

Lovely pale dog with very clean outline. Good reach of neck, well placed shoulders and good length of upper arm. Good depth of forechest . Lovely head and expression with good dark pigment. Strong topline and level tailset. Good bone and neat feet. Excellent turn of stifle and straight hocks. On the move 1st was a little more settled.

  1. BARADAV OUT N ABOUT

Lovely dark gold boy with overall balance. Good bone and neat feet. Strong head well chiselled, kind eye and good pigment. Level topline but he carried his tail a little high on the move. Good turn of stifle, straight hocks.

  1. CHALEUR ESPIRIT DE CORPS

Smaller dog overall. More shallow in upperarm and stifle than I would prefer. Good topline but high tailset which he carried on the move. Well chiselled head piece with good dark pigment which gave him a lovely kind expression. Good bone and neat feet.

State Bred:

Very glamorous young dog. Very clean in outline with overall balance. Excellent front constructionwith good depth of forechest. Excellent reach of neck, strong topline and tailset. Beautiful head and expression with good dark pigment. Good bone, neat feet, strong hocks. Good spring of rib and short coupled. Excellent turn of stifle and well let down hocks. Moved with reach and drive.

  1. Goldmartini Say It Like It Is

Mature boy in full coat and standing four square. Plenty of depth to this boy. Strong bone and good feet. Short coupled dog with good spring of rib. Good depth of forechest. Lovely head and expression and good pigment. Good depth of stifle and well let down hocks. Moved well with drive.

  1. CH BARADAV LAW N ORDER

Lovely mature 4 yr old in good coat and condition. Pleasant head piece with good pigment and kind eye and expression. Good depth of forechest, good bone neat feet. Short coupled. Would like more strength in topline. Good turn of stifle and straight hocks. Moved freely.

Australian Bred:

  1. CH CHALEUR CRAFTSMAN (ai)

Fine upstanding dark dog with a happy alert expression and paying full attention to his handler. Well-proportioned head piece with kind eye and lovely expression, good pigment. Good front angulation and balanced rear angulation. Good spring of rib, and short coupled. Level topline and good tailset. Good bone, straight hocks and good feet. Moved with drive.

  1. CH DOBRO ARCADE FIRE

Lovely mature gold dog standing four square. A little longer in loin than 1st but still overall presented a balanced picture. Good reach of neck leading to excellent front assembly allowing good depth of chest. Good spring of rib. Good topline and tailset. Masculine head and dark eye giving a lovely soft expression. Moved well showing his happy character.

  1. CH BARADAV MURPHY’S LAW (ai)

Paler coated dog and longer in loin. Excellent front assembly with good depth of chest. Good reach of neck, level topline and good tailset. Beautiful head and expression and dark pigment. Good bone and neat feet. Handler was standing him too stretched and affecting his balance. He showed his happy character on the move.

  1. KAPARLA IN THE LINE OF FIRE

Lovely dog standing four square. Lovely head and expression showing his full character. Good front assembly and good depth of chest. Level topline and good tailset. Would like a little more second thigh. Good bone and neat feet. Moved well.

OPEN DOG:

A really lovely class oozing quality, very little between these 4 boys. I am sure they have changed places many times!

Very balanced mature dog who stood four square. Every part of this dog was in proportion. Excellent front assembly and strong quarters. Strong level topline and correct tailset. Masculine balanced head with kind dark eye. Straight legs and good feet. Good spring of rib and short coupled. Carried himself well using his strong hind quarters to drive around the ring. Another lovely dog balanced throughout. Excellent layback of shoulder and length of upper arm. Good depth of forechest and good spring of rib. Masculine head with kind expression. Good pigment. Level topline and good tailset. Strong quarters and moved with drive.

  1. SUPREME CH CHALEUR VALENTINO

Lovely pale dog in good coat and condition. Presents a balanced picture standing and has all the attributes associated with the other 2 . Beautiful head and expression. Kind dark eye. Short coupled with good spring of rib and strong topline. Level tailset. Strong front assembly. Moved with drive.

  1. CH CHALEUR BLACK TIE AFFAIR

Nicely presented pale dog a little longer in loin. Good front assembly and good reach of neck. Masculine head with kind expression. Good pigment. Good bone and good feet. Good reach of neck, level topline and good tail set. Strong hind quarters. Moved out well with good reach.

Veteran Dog:

Mature 7 year old in excellent condition. Lovely head and expression. Good bone and neat feet. Very balanced outline with good front assembly and balanced rear assembly. Level topline and good tailset. Good spring of rib and short coupled. Moved well around the ring.

Litter Sisters, both of excellent quality and my remarks apply to both. Lovely heads and very sweet expressions with lovely dark pigment. Good bone and cat like feet, happy outgoing puppies which I am sure have a very bright future. Ist place today was on her stronger topline and balance for her age.

Well what can I say…..she was not very interested in this show business!!! All a little overwhelming for her. Lovely puppy with such a sweet face, good bone and coat. Hopefully as time goes on she will become a star in the ring!

MINOR PUPPY BITCH

Nicely grown puppy with good length of leg. Nicely proportioned head with kind dark eye & expression. Excellent pigment. Good reach of neck, well placed shoulder and good upperarm. Level topline and tailset. Short coupled and good spring of rib. Would like her to develop a little more in depth of stifle, straight hocks. Moved freely.

Lovely puppy, very balanced for her 6 months. Good reach of neck leading to well placed shoulders. Good upperarm, strong topline and good tailset. Sweet head and expression but would have liked her eye a little darker. Excellent bone and lovely neat feet, excellent turn of stifle, straight hocks and moved well.

  1. CALENDULA THE CLEANING LADY

Nice puppy well grown for age, good depth of body and spring of rib. Level topline and good tailset. Would have liked a little more length of neck, and more depth in stifle. Moved well.

Beautiful 8 month old puppy, in good condition. Beautiful head and expression with good dark pigment. Very balanced in outline with clean neck, well placed shoulder and strong topline with level tailset. Good depth of forechest, straight bone and neat feet. Good turn of stifle and straight hocks. Covered the ground well on the move.

JUNIOR BITCH

BEAUTIFUL CLASS OF JUNIOR BITCHES WITH SUCH DEPTH OF QUALITY. A REAL PLEASURE TO JUDGE AND SOME HARD DECISIONS HAD TO BE MADE. AGAIN I AM SURE THESE GIRLS CHANGE PLACES MANY TIMES.

Very pretty Junior Bitch, Balanced throughout with excellent front and rear assembly. Sweetest face and expression with beautiful dark pigment. Lovely clean neck , strong topline and level tailset. Excellent depth of body short coupled and strong hind quarters. Moved with style and drive.

  1. CHALEUR IRRESISTABLE

Another very pretty Junior Bitch, I was splitting hairs between these 2. Balanced outline with good front and rear proportions. Beautiful head and sweet expression with good dark pigment. Good bone and neat feet and excellent turn of stifle. Good topline and tailset. Overall a quality bitch who moved with style and drive. 1st scored over her because of length of upperarm.

Nicely balanced bitch, of good proportions. Good length of leg and balanced front & rear angulation. Lovely headpiece with good pigment and kind expression. Strong neck leading to well placed shoulder and good length of upperarm. Level topline and good tailset. Would like more depth of second thigh. Moved freely around the ring.

  1. GOLDMARTINI PLAYIN BY MY RULES

Larger bitch overall, stronger in head and body. Head strong although balanced throughout with kind eye and good pigment. Excellent front and rear assembly with good depth of stifle. Good bone, neat feet and strong straight hocks giving her drive as she moved around the ring. Excellent spring of rib and depth of body. Good reach of neck and well placed shoulders, strong topline, tailset dropped off a little.

INTERMEDIATE BITCH

Good size bitch, well balanced. Excellent front and rear angulation. Pretty head and kind expression, good pigment. Clean neck, good shoulder placement, good depth of forechest. Lovely balanced girl, with sweetest head and expression. Kind dark eye and excellent pigment. Strong topline and good tailset. Excellent front and rear angulation with good depth of forechest. Would like a little more reach of neck. Good spring of rib and short coupled. Good bone and feet. Moved freely and true.

Good size bitch with good body proportions. A little longer in loin than the 1 & 2. Feminine head and expression with excellent pigment. Would like a little more stop. Good front assembly and excellent turn of stifle. Clean neck and good shoulder placement. Excellent bone and good feet, well let down hocks and good turn of stifle. Moved well with drive.

Mid gold bitch, balanced throughout, lovely coat and condition. Nicely balanced front and rear assembly. Good depth of forechest. Balanced head, expression a little hard for me. Well placed shoulder and upperarm, good topline and tailset, short coupled. Well let down hocks which she used on the move.
