Discussion topics

  1. Eagle Scout Project – Dylan Eckart presented
  2. Golden Lake will be partnering with Dylan and the local Eagle Scout troop to build a free little library that will be inside and located upstairs by the main office.
  3. The little library will have multiple shelves so that all students can enjoy a variety of reading options.
  4. Goal is to have the library be done before the end of the school year
  5. Funding: Lowes will provide $100 gift card to build the telephone booth
  6. Mrs. Miller will be donating and rotating books for the library
  7. Treasurer Report
  8. Reviewed the PTA Treasurer’s Report Summary
  9. Teacher Funding Request
  10. Special Ed request: Asking for 2 kore wobble chairs for $70 a piece. Kore chairs will help with distractibility and helping their bodies move while they do schoolwork.
  11. Teachers interested in Daily 5: Request for $1,275 to attend a two day workshop to implement the ‘Daily 5 and Math Daily 3’. This workshop includes multiple grade levels (K,3,4,5). After the workshop the teacher’s will be able to: set the tone in their classroom for independent learning, structure literacy and math time so students work productively while they deliver differentiated small-group and one-on-one instruction. The program is a very reputable program.
  12. Raz Kids – Online fluency program: Request for $599.70 for a one year membership to Raz-Kids for kindergarten and first grade (total of 6 licenses). Raz-Kids allow children to practice reading fluency at their instructional level. Each student has a password to log in on a computer, iPad or at home.

  17. Golden Lake Wear
  18. Golden lake wear will be available starting next week via paper forms,.Communications will go out in the Gazette and with students by Wednesday, November 25. Need to turn in form back in to the school by November 30 with turnaround by December 18. We will also have a spring drive and purchase some items for the school store.
  19. Bingo Planning (January 29 6 – 8pm) – The biggest need is for volunteers to collect donations for Bingo and the silent auction at the carnival. Katie Arndt and Mrs. Kramer will also assist in collecting donations from the community.

  21. Communications for volunteers will start in December

  23. Kris Benson will be helping with the baskets for the silent auction
  24. Principal report
  25. Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) visit: On Monday, November 9 visited Golden Lake. GLE has been recognized 4 times for being an outstanding school. 4 common themes across these recognized schools that make them successful: 1) Parent involvement 2) Data driven decisions 3) experience staff or top notch younger staff 4) Relationships
  26. ALICE: Procedure that staff and students have reviewed to enhance the lock down process. This is a worldwide program that is highly regarded.
  27. Outdoor classroom: Would like to be able to seat 30 – 45 students in the classroom.
  28. Phase 1: Choose a design and coordinate budget and volunteer. Designs are best for square or rectangle. The goal is break ground in the spring.
  29. Phase 2: Curriculum – what does it look like for each grade
  30. Budget moving forward: 2 of the 3 questions failed in the November 5 election. Everybody next year is going to do more with less. The cuts are around $2.5M. The district is working and will have the budget review in January. Mr. Gerst will address the changes and cuts at a future PTA meeting.
