What Does The Bible Say A Man Should Be?
If these are the guidelines as to what the Bible says a man should be, what is the church doing about it? What is the church contributing to make sure men in this day have these qualities? “Man Up” is designed and focused on bringing men into a relationship with Jesus Christ, and teaching and training them in ministry as to build these character qualities in them.
Strong
1 Kings 2:3-4ESV Be strong, and show yourself a man, and keep the charge of theLordyour God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn, that theLordmay establish his word that he spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’
Steadfast
1 Corinthians 16:13-14ESV Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, and be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.
Prepares
Proverbs 16:9ESV The heart of man plans his way, but theLordestablishes his steps.
Loves
Ephesians 5:25-27ESV Husbands love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
Free from sexual immorality
Ephesians 3:3-6 ESV But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Be Christ Imitators
Ephesians 5:1 ESV Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.
Discerning
Ephesians 5:10 Try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.11Take no part in theunfruitfulworks of darkness, but insteadexpose them.
Delights in the Lord
Psalm 1:1-6ESV Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of theLord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Sanctified to God
1 Thessalonians 4:3-5ESV For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;
Presentable
2 Timothy 2:15ESV Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Works
Genesis 1:26-27ESV Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Blameless
Psalm 119:1-176ESV Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of theLord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! ...
Ready to stand up when called upon
Numbers 1:3ESV From twenty years old and upward, all in Israel who are able to go to war, you and Aaron shall list them, company by company.
Submissive
Ephesians 5:21ESV Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Faithful
Deuteronomy 28:1-68ESV “And if you faithfully obey the voice of theLordyour God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, theLordyour God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of theLordyour God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field.
