Gloucestershire County Courses for Scouts and Explorers~ Autumn 2004

This autumn we have several courses planned for both Scouts and Explorers.

  • Scouts are invited to apply to –
  • gain a Scout Activity Badge
  • gain an Instructor Badge
  • Explorers are invited to apply to -
  • work towards an Explorer Activity Badge
  • work towards their Chief Scouts Platinum, Diamond or Queens Scouts Awards
  • work towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
  • On most courses adults are also welcome to attend and gain experience.

How to apply

  • Check the badge requirements either on paper or at
  • Check with your leaders that it is OK for you to go.
  • Fill in the form below and post it with correct payment. (Cheques to “Gloucestershire Scouts”) Separate cheques & forms for each course are a great help.
  • Joining details will be sent to you before the course.

Dragonboat Racing Sunday 10th October South Cerney. This is a day at the Cotswold Water Park which includes instruction, several races & a barbecue. Particularly suitable for Explorers. £10

Radio Communicator OR IT.Friday 15th/ Sunday 17th October. Choose onebadge:

IT - Stage 2 to 5 of the staged IT Badge. Learn about Information Technology – computers and the Internet. Talk to Scouts from around the world on Jamboree-on-the-Internet (JOTI).

Radio Communicator - Talk to Scouts from around the world on Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA). Course includes Radio Society of GB qualification (but you must get application in by start of October.) Accommodation is indoors and catering is provided. £23* (*plus additional charge for optional RSGB qualification.*)

Climber Wednesday 27th & Thursday 28th October. Mid week half term course at the Warehouse Climbing Centre in Gloucester. Climbing & bouldering using the extensive facilities & fully qualified instructors. All climbing equipment provided. Non-residential. £33

Power Coxswain Friday 29th/Sunday 31st October. A weekend on a narrow boat on the Grand Union Canal. You learn to steer the boat and work the locks. Transport included. £38 (A 2 weekend course for leaders is run in February & March. Let Paddy know if you are interested.) FULL

Mountain Activities Weekend12th/14th November Based incosy cottage in the SW Peak District, this weekend will offer the opportunity for mountain walking, andpossibly rock climbing. The Peak District is very varied, allowing for walks/climbs suitable for all ages and abilities. Please state yourprevious mountaineering experience on the application form as we will splityou up into groups with similar abilities. This weekendcould count towards the Scout Hillwalker Badge and AdventureChallenge, or theExplorer Scout Mountain Activities Badge. £35
