Common Unit Performance Expectations & Science and Engineering Practices (SEP)

HS-ESS3-6: Use a computational representation to illustrate the relationships among Earth systems and how those relationships are being modified due to human activity.

SEP 2: Developing and using models

SEP 4: Analyzing and interpreting data

SEP 5: Using mathematics and computational thinking

  1. Define global warming.
  2. Differentiate between global warming and climate change.
  3. List factors, natural phenomena and human activities, that contribute to global warming.
  4. Describe the greenhouse effect and how human activity alters it.
  5. Identify ways you can minimize your carbon footprint (CO2 production).
  6. Created a model of the greenhouse effect and collected data supporting this phenomena.
  7. Used lab notebook to document the scientific process during an experiment.
  8. Successfully log-in and navigate Google Drive and Classroom.

Unit Assessment - None for Common Unit

Extension Opportunities for Global Warming Common Unit - due Sept 4th

1. The Greenhouse Effect Lab Report: Ms. Kawakatsu (F2) will be hosting two 7th periods (August 26 & 27 - you only need to attend once) where you will be re-testing the effects of human activity (specifically CO2 production) on the greenhouse effect. You need to come ready with a pre-lab (everything ready through the data table). Then, on September 1 & 2 (again, you only need to attend once) during 7th period, Mrs. Chevalier (E4) will be explaining how to successfully write a lab report. Please bring your new data with you. You will then need to individually type up a lab report with your new data (including a computer generated graph) and submit it by September 4th to your FOS teacher.
