Global Poverty Post Card Project

To conclude the six-day unit on Global Poverty students will demonstrate knowledge of poverty by creating a series of UNICEF themed postcards including a front image and a text back.

Card Requirements-

Front artwork reflecting topic

Back text to a friend including four or more details about the lesson.

Water Quality- Lesson 1-3

Postcard 1- The Big Picture. What is the importance of clean water?

a. The big picture handout, Nicaragua, The Sudan (card should use details from these)

Postcard 2- Clean Water & Good Sanitation

a. Mozambique, Indonesia, Arizona (card should use details from these)

Postcard 3- Solutions to correct poor water quality and conserve water

  1. Your water use test results and how children are creating solutions to poor water conditions (card should use details from here)

Use the lessons on water quality to gain the knowledge needed to create these postcards. All cards should include an image on the front of the card that reflects the cards topic and a scene from one of the lessons presented. The text on the back should be written to a friend and explain what the front image is about using facts on the topic.

Root Causes of Exclusion- Lesson 4-6

Postcard 4- Who is excluded?

a. Based on your journal entry on Exclusion in the U.S.

Postcard 5- What causes exclusion?

a. based on research on Brown vs. Board of Education or (search child labor)

Postcard 6- What can prevent exclusion?

a. Card should reflect ideas about solutions to the problem of exclusion. Use personal news cast as text on the card

Use the lessons on Exclusion to gain the knowledge needed to create these postcards. All cards should include one image on the front and a letter to a friend on the other side. The letter should include facts on the topic of the card. The topic will vary depending on the lesson that the card reflects.
