Essential Questions

Below is a working list of Essential Questions that have helped to frame our study of Global History. These questions can be answered based on what you have learned throughout the year.

1.What are the major turning points in Global History? Why should they be considered turning points?

2.How has geography shaped history and culture? (Be sure you can discuss specific features that have had a specific historical or cultural impact on a specific nation/region.)

3.How have religion/philosophy influenced historical and cultural developments? (Be sure you can discuss specific beliefs of specific religions and how those beliefs have had a specific impact on the political or social developments of specific places.)

4.How have societies attempted to achieve and maintain order? (Be sure you can discuss clearly what specific societies did to achieve and maintain order…and whether or not they were successful.)

5.To what extent do art and architecture reflect the values of society? (Be sure you can discuss specific works of art/architecture and how they reflect the values of a specific society at a specific time in history.)

6.How did individuals shape history? To what extent did they reflect their societies? (Be sure you know the important individuals we studied and how each shaped their specific nation/ region.)

Note the emphasis on knowing specifics! Please be sure to back up all of you answers with details and specific knowledge of history. Remember, you should write FOR EXAMPLE…. at least 4 or 5 times in your essays!!!!
