Course Description:

Global History & Geography 10 is a continuation from 9th grade in the study of world history.The course will begin with the Age of Enlightenment and end with current world issues.Special attention will be given to thematic and DBQ essays.At the end of this course, students will take a state Regents examination that combines 9th and 10th grade material.

Global History & Geography 10 Essential Learnings:

Throughout the course, the following Essential Learnings (key topics) will be addressed:

  • Quarter 1:Enlightenment, French Revolution, Latin American Revolution
  • Quarter 2: Nationalism, Industrial Revolution, Imperialism, World War I, Russian Revolution
  • Quarter 3: Asian Nationalism, Great Depression, Rise of Fascism and Nazism, World War II, the Cold War
  • Quarter 4: Middle East, Modern Africa, Globalization

Grading Policy:

Grades will be based on a point system and will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Homeworkand classwork assignment (5-20 points)
  • Bellringers (10-20 points/week)
  • Quizzes (weekly, 20-30 points)
  • Quarter Exams (200 points)
  • Essays (100 points)
  • Research Paper (TBD)
  • Points received/total number of points = quarter average
  • The NYS Global History and Geography Regents will be worth 20% of the entire course

Class Expectations

  • Come prepared to class with your quarter packet, paper, and something to write with.
  • Follow instructions and be respectful to all in the room.
  • Contribute to class discussion.
  • Be on time.
  • No use of electronic devices.
  • No food or drinks in the classroom (with the exception of water).

  • Parents access: Parents can access all of the above information on the school website at any time.

Parent Role

The Global History Geography Regents covers two years of content from Global History & Geography 9 and Global History & Geography 10. Due to the nature of the exam, parental involvement can be instrumental in helping students pass Global History & Geography 10 and the Regents. Here are some tips to help your child succeed:

  • Monitor grades for all assignments, quizzes, and tests on eSchool on a regular basis.
  • Check when students are absent) for course announcements, homework assignments, and notes. This information is posted daily.
  • UtilizeHomework Center if your child is behind on work or having difficulty understanding the material.
  • A social studies teacher is always present in Homework Center on Wednesdays until 3:15pm to help these students, who can then take the 3:30 bus home.
  • You have the option of assigning your child to Homework Center at anytime. Call or email Mr. Maye or Miss Barlow if you want your student assigned.
  • If we see that your student is struggling and would benefit from Homework Center, we will contact you.
  • If you have concerns, contact your child’s teacher. We are always accessible via email and telephone!
