VCAL Teacher position

The VCAL Program at Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre delivers all strands of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) from Foundation to Intermediate and Senior. Many of our students are marginalised youth.

Teacher/s, full or part-time, are sought to teach literacy and numeracy, project work, work related skills and personal development.

o  The position hours will be based upon the skills and availability of the successful applicant/s.

We are seeking VCAL teacher/s who have the demonstrated ability to empower young people to achieve their learning goals and who will work collaboratively to develop and deliver an innovative, creative, flexible and successful VCAL program to learners who have multiple and complex needs.

Tutor 3 Level 3 as per the Neighbourhood Houses and Adult Community Education Centres (NHACE) Collective Agreement 2010
Currently $27.33 per hour.
For every hour teaching, 30 mins paid preparation time.

Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre is an Adult and Community Education provider, Neighbourhood House, and Registered Training Organisation (RTO). The organisation provides information and communications technology courses, language and literacy and numeracy programs, occasional childcare, and the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

Key accountabilities

Key accountabilities of the position include:

·  Development and delivery of several Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) courses including:

1.  Teaching across all levels of the VCAL Curriculum as required.

2.  Conducting pre-training interviews, overseeing the welfare and general care of students in the VCAL program and involvement in case management with outside agencies from time to time.

3.  Following consultation with learners and staff, planning and developing curriculum to meet course and organisational requirements.

4.  Using relevant strategies to meet diverse learner needs.

5.  Assessing learners according to course requirements.

6.  Conducting course evaluation.

7.  Maintaining an awareness of current developments in your field of expertise and in adult and community education generally, which will involve participation in professional development.

·  Fulfilment of relevant teaching related duties including:

1.  Undertaking course administrative duties and compliance associated with relevant statutory and regulatory standards such as the VCAA (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority), VRQA (Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority) and the AQTF (Australian Quality Training Framework).

2.  Adhering to relevant centre administrative policies and procedures related
to course documentation, data collection, and records management, for example.

3.  Establishing and maintaining student files.

4.  Participating in moderation and validation sessions.

5.  Participating actively in organisation meetings.

6.  Other duties as directed.

The position description outlines the current duties and responsibilities of the position. Regular meetings with the Education Manager will provide opportunities to review these duties and responsibilities and they are subject to change according to the needs and priorities of Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre.

Key criteria for success

After twelve months in the position the successful candidate will have:

·  Successfully delivered a range of Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) courses.

·  Ensure learners are provided with a rewarding educational experience that meets their individual needs.

·  Assisted with securing further funding and business development opportunities for the following calendar year by ensuring the organisation meets its statutory and regulatory obligations.

Selection criteria

1.  Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field.

2.  Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, including the unit TAELLN401A

3.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a small team without direct supervision.

4.  Experience working with young people who have multiple and complex needs.

5.  Four years relevant education and teaching experience in a similar environment.

6.  Expertise in developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative courses that meet the diverse needs of learners.

7.  Demonstrated awareness of, and commitment to, the principles of adult and community education.

8.  Working With Children Check, Police Check OR Current VIT Registration
